That’s because one is for right handed and the other one is for left handed.
Put your finger over one and you can control the flow
After I learned this I stopped using those dispensers. I don’t want to pour soy sauce through a spout that has been touched by ten thousand different unwashed hands.
On the one hand (aha) only the air vent gets touched and so the spy sauce itself should be fine. But on the other hand, a lot of bottles don’t distinguish between the air vent and the pouring nozzle and even on those that do you can guarantee that some dipshit will use them the wrong way around. Sooool, yeah. Great for home use.
In case one is blocked!
Use the other side if you want to assassinate someone
All the responses that say its for air fail to explain why the air hole has to be an extra spout instead of just an air hole
The spout facing you is easy to cover with a thumb or finger to control the pour flow when you only want to put a few drops.
To be honest, it’s reasonably ingenious and a rather old design.
Soy is strong and you need to be delicate with the dose.
recently they have screw caps and strange restrictors which let the sauce out and air in, but this predates that design. And the ones with a screw cap don’t do retention.
If they put the air hole on the top, people will try to pour through it and make a mess.
if they put the air hole on the side it’d spill out if they didn’t notice.
as far as i can thing, the only reasonble foolproof designs would be to retain the screw top lid german-style, and use one of the restrictor inserts.
But the two-spout cap, that’s cheap and easy
it would not pour, if there was no other way for air to get in
It would glug.
with a big enough spout, yes, but with such narrow spouts it wouldn’t.
not in this case. if you cover one end with your finger, you could not puor out the other end. i am doing it right now with mine
Because 3 would just be silly.
Air
That makes no sense. I just tried to pour out air and it’s soy sauce out of both holes.
He was talking about from the bottle.
Yes, that’s where the soy sauce is, usually.
Archeologist here, it’s uuuuh for ritual purposes
You guys still confused by the bone leather working tools? lol
They thought those were for rituals for a while.
It’s just a hat

So you can flip it upside down and you and a friend can both get a drink at the same time.
I would imagine one spout pours faster than the other so you can get a little less using one side than the other. But I’ve never seen this myself so it’s just a guess.
Or maybe because it’s entirely enclosed, one is so air can get in and it pours cleanly instead of bubbling out.
You use your finger on one side to affect the flow rate.
Please don’t touch the spout on these in restaurants. If it’s your personal one, fine. But don’t do this to public ones please. Outside is dirty enough.
How do you agree what side to modulate airflow? They look identical, and swapping sides to put your grubby fingers would be gross.
And now think about these bottles sitting on the table at tons of asian restaurants.
This is what I was told as well.
Definitely for airflow.
Heh. It’s a idiot proof–okay maybe not completely–method to limit a pour. Prevents those idiot moments when you pour more than you wanted; like when you have a very nice–expensive bottle of Shoyu or Tamari.
The other one’s for left-handed people.
😂
One for soy sauce to come out, another for air to enter the bottle. It helps keeps the “flow” smooth.
Yeah it’s the same reason your mom had to punch a second hole at the top of the Juicy Juice can before she could pour it into your sippy cup.
This resonated in my soul.
You must be old like me. :) I’m not sure I even have one of those punches anymore.
I managed to keep one. Haven’t had a use case in many years.
Mom would only let me drink juicy juice. No sodas at home. Also, she only bought me Raisin Bran (I talked her into Kellog’s since the raisins had sugar on them. Post wasn’t as good) or frosted mini-wheats (b/c dad liked them). I’m guessing back then juicy juice was as close to actual fruit juice as could be had? Never bothered to look.
afaik, juicy juice has always been 100% juice, even under its current vulture equity ownership.
Ah yes, the church key. Yeah I have one somewhere but never have a use for it.
I had forgotten the name! Neat.
Lol so had I, until I searched for “pointy can opener”. Was surprised I found it so fast.
I love that design. So utilitarian, so pretty.

Hmm. I buy the big 1l plastic bottles and refill the one above.
Wise! I do that with Tabasco sauce.
Oh you just reminded me I saw Absolut Tabasco flavour in the grocery store the other day, I ought to try it. It sounds hilariously bad.
Or drop an alka-seltzer tablet in there, and sauce up two dishes at once? :D
This sounds like the most logical answer
This sounds like the most logical answer.
It also allows one to place a finger over the air hole, so that you can add single drops at a time

One side is regular soy sauce and the other is low sodium.
low sodium
soyless sauce?
soyless green
