  • My biggest regret is going with 32 of instead of 64GB of DDR5, when I built a new Ryzen 7000 PC in 2022 to replace my aging 4th gen i5.

But what I don't regret is ignoring everyone telling me not to do all sorts of unspeakable things to snag a $1600 4090 at launch, especially given that it was never sold that cheaply ever again. It's a beast of a card and I'll easily get a decade of gaming out of it. Saw 4090s going for over $3K used on eBay lately, so yeah I'm happy with making what was a dumb decision at the time.

  • It surely doesn't help that YouTube has replaced broadcast TV for most people. You can't even go back if you wanted to because TV is all but dead these days. Not unless you don't mind 24-7/365 marathons of Ridiculousness on MTV, and nothing but reality TV and old reruns catered to 80-year-olds on the remaining channels, cause that's the only demographic left still watching TV.

  • Ublock Lite still works on Chrome. There are no custom filters and it doesn't block a lot of annoyances (like "Sign In With [brand]"), but it gets the job done for most people.

But honestly if you want have the most reliable adblocking experience, then Firefox w/Ublock Origin is still your best bet (also YouTube ReVanced for mobile and SmartTube/SmartTubeNext for TVs).

  • I get that part but what's the joke? Is the "hamster" actually a human body and they're trying to cover up a murder?

  • Looks like somebody's going to be buying hard drives with Affirm lol

  • I don't get it.

  • In my city they solve this issue simply by making a sign that says "drive this speed when light is blinking", otherwise normal speed limit applies.

  • That's... already a thing.

  • I don't like that you can't downvote, though.

  • I don't remember pedaling my eBike, either. With a big enough motor, they're all but completely vestigal.

  • I have my birth certificate, federal ID, and social security card handy. If that's not good enough, they can go fuck themselves. How much more proof does one need?

  • Yes and I hate them cause it's a pain in the ass having to route all my drives around them. Some trips take me 3x as long as they should cause of that stupid privacy-invading bullshit.

  • I honestly didn't know what they were thinking with that commercial. Why would you proudly advertise that you've built a massive surveillance network, during one of the most-watched yearly televised events too for that matter? Did they seriously believe that there wouldn't be a major backlash? I mean I appreciate the blunt honesty in that commercial so I'll give them credit for that.

  • Is Matrix a self-hosted alternative to Discord? I've been looking for one but the closest I can find is RocketChat, which is meant more for corporate environments. I'm going to be launching a radio station for Lemmy soon and I need a suitable solution for chat platform that I can integrate with my website (and eventually app).

  • Tell me about it. I also paid about the same for a 1070 back in 2016 and it lasted me all the way until 2022, when I finally decided to be a sucker and pony up the $1600 for a brand new 4090 at launch. Which as insane as that is, I'm glad I did because now 4090s go for about $3K used!

If you didn't buy a new GPU by mid 2023, you're pretty much stuck with what you have for the foreseeable future, given how insane prices are now with no signs of slowing down.

  • Excellent; thanks for the heads up. I'll avoid the drama and pirate any component that requires a licensing fee.

  • Yeah and I'm asking you to please don't lol

  • I know but they censored that too.

  • What's wrong with being anti-CCP? I hate China's corrupted government almost as much as I hate the USA's.
