  • I have an ex co-worker that moved there a few years ago. I did a few on and off months of research. It's isolated. You're not getting concerts or going to amusement parks. Housing is expensive. Pay is marginal when you put it up against housing. Kids go through school and move to Australia or further for more opportunities. There's a windy season that's pretty insane if you're on the windward side. The ozone hole affects them, summers can be brutal even when it's not all that hot. Population is not diverse. It's markedly low stress. English speaking, schools are good, people are generally friendly. Lots of walking to places, food is seasonal, cheap and good quality. There are lots of good views and nature spaces.

  • I sorted out my DVD's Kept the collectors stuff, moved the cheaper but beloved stuff to binders and threw away the chaff i bought for a dollar a disk when blockbuster went under.

I can keep my entire original collection easily on 2 hard drives these days

  • Knowing what we know now, it could be attempted atonement. I've seen lots of old people who were assholes their whole life being real nice trying to get into heaven.

  • Ohh yeah, best to stay out of echo chambers when you aren't of the same voice.

To be fair, They're not entirely wrong. It will straight up make a horror show if you don't keep an eye on it and even if it succeeds, it's nothing to really cheer about because it will eventually fuck over a LOT of people.

You can't just tell it to make you a browser, insert $20k in tokens and walk away, but you absolutely can get it to make a multi player online party game or make a websocket client/server/admin to manage a dozen pc's hooked into a video wall.

  • 5 hours... god, is that it?

There has to be some kind of crowd funding we can do. Can't these YT/TT creators put their ancient archives over there as a backup?

Even electroboom and bigclive are on odysee

  • Running on Dell XPS, Lenovo T-Series and Asus laptops absolutely 0 problems with audio... except Slack.

    Boss: let's huddle

Me: OK! preferences > audio and video, webcam works, mic showing me talking!!!! Join Huddle!

    Boss: I can't hear you.

Me: preferences > audio and video , microphone no longer exists.

    pkill slack

    slack &

    restart huddle, it's fine.

But, to be fair, he's on windows and 1/10 times he can't be heard.

  • Countries like New Zealand are absolutely falling over themselves to bring in trades and medical professionals. I nearly replanted myself there.

  • The world runs on lip service. I don't love it either, but we're here

  • Companies have been doing this for decades, maybe centuries. They would hire a 'secret shopper' to come in, order something, and fill out a checklist for corporate. It was done in department stores and fast food chains, any place that was a franchise where theire name was on the line. Some places hired companies to check up on people, some places just hired individuals. The fast-food chain I used to work at hired a neighbor paid them in free food.

Managers make people say it, and reports check to make sure managers are doing their jobs.

The really cool part about how we used to do it was we didn't waste fuckloads of electricity/water to make sure managers were doing their jobs.

  • First off, let's make a little correction to your accusations. I didn't like Harris, but Harris vs Trump was no contest. First Past the Post isn't a three-horse race. And I'd rather have seen her get and and get beat down in protests than motions to the entire US whatever the fuck we have going on here.

Based on the verifiable knowledge above, I question your basis for your claim that election data varies significantly by news sources,

I didn't say that, you did. The popular vote difference after your math was 0.09% Which is far below your position that it was no where near enough. That tells me you just looked at the math instead of just following your echo chamber now. That .09% is an error bar for lost mail.

I state that Holocaust Harris would’ve lost even if she secured every single third-party vote.

That statement is at the very least misleading and at the most bait. The Election was won in purple (or blue-border, if you will) states due to a surge in red-area turnout and a dearth of blue-area turnout. Those red votes didn't come from blue or independent; those blue votes didn't go to or come from independent. The popular vote was exceedingly close as the 'math' you provided shows. And due to years of facism taking foot, quite a number of those electoral college seats are strongly biased.

“leftists cost my beloved Madam Genocidaire the presidency”

No, the truth of the matter is people like you ranting that an A/B race with no C option caused further disenfranchisement on the blue side, enough to let the right walk in and take it over, and I can't quite decide if the far left were actually ignorant enough to help the right, or extra vocal people like yourself were outright purchased by the right to ensure their win.

  • He was an asshole in business, got fabulously wealthy, cheated on his wife, all very normal rich things from what we knew at the time. We gave him generous thoughts because he had mostly gotten out of the business and started plilanthropy.

Giving him some credit at that point was warranted, given what we thought we knew. Who were we to guess?

Now, the real question, from my perspective: Did all the rich/elite 100% know he was trafficking? Were everyone in all those pictures complicit? I'm inclined to say yes. I don't think they 'close friends' just stayed till the end of the party for the "eyes wide shut" shit.

  • Missing frames:

Mermaid at dinner, crying, ripping apart a live lobster with her bare hands, hearing it scream to eat it

Human at dinner, cutting into a filet, wow, this is nice!

  • Damn I was hoping not to have to answer that part. :P

Wait till the midterms, Stand out on the corner and look at an ICE truck passing by, count to 3.

  • obv

  • Noone has to tune in to give him numbers, he makes up his own and anyone that dares to say he didn't pull those numbers get's the stick

  • First one, then the other.

  • It's mostly an architectural failure. Only one of the Amazon outages in the past decade was truly platform-wide. If you stood up VM's in US-West, Singapore and Ireland, stood up dedicated HA storage clusters in each zone, you'd be sitting at 5x9s.

You just really need to stay out of managed services, the upside them is you can stand up HA/FT in any provider.

  • Mildly Infuriating @lemmy.world

98 degrees upstairs, ac stopped working at 8am.

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

I wonder what the specs are on the technology that disables shopping cart wheels
