"Man rests from one labor by doing another." That also works for managing chronic pain, as I've discovered...

  • Salute to you for reading through it all.

I don't particularly enjoy sharing that horror story, but life is life, and I feel like we must not let that happen again.

  • Bonus pts-- is it just me or is that Walt, partly in disguise...?!?

  • I don't know if you feel this way, but sometimes I discover a new webcomic, and find that particular example utterly brill, but then just sort of assume that it represents the typical output.

Of course it almost never does! And yet... somehow I feel let down as a 'consumer' who paid absolutely nothing to enjoy it and did nothing to thank the person who shared it! Like, where's the refund upon my wasted time, man!? D:

So yeah, just stopping sometimes to think about what an absolutely entitled asshole I can be about all that... is I suspect, a good thing. And complaining about free content? Probably not so much...

In any case, Twonks is certainly one of the better webcomics I've found, so thank you @the_picard_maneuver@lemmy.world and certainly, thank you Steve Nelson! (the creator)

  • One wants more! :D

  • Rosemary Kennedy.

  • Cheers! 🥂

  • Gotta love the clownish, servile looks of the East Germans as they present a ceremonial bear to the Big Bad Bear, himself.

  • Huh, good to know!

I was vaguely aware of this old strip, but hadn't quite realised it was McCay's, and especially that it targeted adults in contrast to kids, via Little Nemo.

  • Someone who uses the word "chud?"

not that I've ever heard it before

EDIT: not my usual type of comment, but I'm glad it got a reaction. :D

  • Do they have a song called "Boboo Boris?"

Heather recoils in pure horror-- "oh god, not this boring-ass speech again."

  • You know, that's a good Q-- did the "RageFace" comics borrow much of that style & energy from Ren and Stimpy...?

  • Yes, I think you explained it well. I'd not stated it very precisely, and I do feel like this is a low-risk platform at the moment.

Still, there's always the potential risk that whatever is posted & commented here can be tracked and recorded in to a permanent record of sorts. And that AI / other tools could possibly be used to collect such info and profile people. Things are changing fast, so I deem it best to be cautious, with an eye on the future.

  • Shoot... some of that stuff I should be able to block via my U-matrix extension. Would just need to play around with the javascripts, I guess.

  • I'm not sure how they do it exactly, but Reddit is evidently really good at detecting alts. Not necessarily by IP# or common information across accounts, but by... well I don't know, some deep algorithms or something?

Reddit still has use to me, and there are one or two communities in which I have roots and a relationship with the mods, etc. I'd really rather not mess around with that or risk getting in to an 'account war' with Reddit over alts. At least at this time...

  • One can get banned for that, as well as the fact that you're once again uploading info that might possibly be used against you in future. Even the Fediverse tracks its accounts as I understand it and makes one's history semi-permanent.

The only true alternative I know is to take part in an accountless system or one which is heavily anonymized, like the 'Chan' stuff or whatever. For me it's just far easier to tread lightly, and avoid certain topics.

EDIT: Downvote away, but give me a rebuttal if you can.

  • Sadly makes sense for the Victorian Age, altho I understand that by the 1910's, short and instant exposures were available in several cameras.

Frees being a successful, popular photographer, I would tend to think he had access to the newer tech. That still leaves the issue of what state his animals were actually in. I almost don't want to know.
