I unironically think that’s what’s behind Hegseth’s obsession with the BMI of the average soldier. While he and his ilk wouldn’t give up the modern military tech, they think it’s less important than how much the typical grunt can dead lift. It’s like Vader calling the Death Star insignificant next to the Force, except instead of a universal metaphysical power it’s the kind of shit that impresses meatheads at the gym.

Those trench raids were much more common early on in the conflict before the full drone apocalypse set in. I have to imagine it’s at least 100-1000x more common that a drone drops a grenade on a trench than it is for the two sides to be close enough to reach out and touch each other.

And if we’re talking about China I think it’s safe to assume that their drone force would dwarf anything we’ve seen in Russia/Ukraine.

if i had to guess, if the US doesn’t just fully abandon taiwan after demolitioning the chip fabs, and chinese leadership is replaced by aliens trying to destabilize earth instead of waiting out the situation, then there’ll be tunnels and shit where flying drones can’t really get to and those dog shitters or rc cars will be way more vulnerable to small arms/ within shotgun range.

ACTUALLY crossbows were tied to strength because your fire rate was tied to how many times you could load it in a multiple hours battle (precision was barely a factor they just shot as many as possible in the right direction) nerd

I don’t think that’s entirely correct, you can’t win a war without having a bunch of fit people who can actually carry guns and walk around the territories you need to occupy. But in this case China has more than enough people with guns so it’s indeed down to strategy (and we can see how the US strategy works in Iran…)

Depends on the objective of the war, occupying territory isnt always the goal, though it tends to be required to some extent usually. And while I will concede that having an army that is physically fit to be an army, I figured that was an assumed baseline. Like, of course well placed toddlers with perfect logistics in place would still lose to a real army. But running a smart war is always more important than greater overall force unless you get to a really extreme difference in force, like ine side having guns and the other side not etc

I suppose overall fitness (not necessarily raw strength) has always been important. You can’t march for days with gear if you can’t run 10m without getting winded.

But you’re right in the sense that bombs and guns equalize that somewhat, drones even more so because you have have your less fit soldiers just pilot them.

    According to the slop machine:

The average height for 19-year-old young adults is approximately 175.7 cm (5 ft 9 in) for men and 163.5 cm (5 ft 4 in) for women in China, compared to about 177 cm (5 ft 9.5 in) for men and 163–164 cm for women in the United States.

So yeah, it’s exclusively racist prejudice based on historically colonialism-driven wealth differences.

I know a Utahn engineering researcher who is 6’6” and built like a tank because he’s obsessed with fitness. Obviously biceps the nearly the size of milk gallons arent the norm, but there are definitely quite a few people over 6’ and physically fit in Utah, even in academia where you’d expect fitness/lifting isn’t a top priority
