  • There's one guy that did a fairly convincing recreation with a squib, but idk if I believe that. There were some other guys that did analysis of the time between cracks, and found it didn't match the shooter being where the shooter officially was.

I think the biggest thing is the timeline of rifle disassembly and reassembly doesn't line up at all, especially considering the disassembled rifle wouldn't be able to fit in the backpack that was in the video. There was some gun guy that bought the exact rifle, and the exact backpack, and the official story clearly doesn't line up there.

But ultimately I don't think it's a huge deal what really happened. It's created a decent amount of conflict among conservatives, what with Candace Ownes, most people don't care anymore, he probably did actually die, and exposing Kirk as alive probably wouldn't change much tbh.

  • Given she voted to give them anti-air missiles, it's more about Iran, not that that makes it much better

  • I don't think posting to Hexbear will make him that much more famous, and the guy that got punched is the one that posted it for the world to see, and it got a decent conservative response there. I don't think lefties posting it will make him any more known to the police or the right.

  • how much profit the companies running these businesses are making?

Well, the article mentions $6.2 billion being shipped overseas, so they're making at least $1.5b, which is nothing to sniff at. But I imagine most of it is used domestically, and considering the massively inflated hospital prices here, they probably make at least as much as from the exports, so you probably get less than 1/3 of what it's value is, at the very least 2/3 if you assume they make nothing from US plasma (lol, lmao).

  • Seems mostly great, but I've heard a lot of negative things about /e/OS. It's probably better than Google-ized Android, but GrapheneOS had a lot of complaints about its security, and most importantly it has proprietary systems and applications included. Proprietary applications by default (some that they've written?) is weird and worrying for a privacy focused OS.

GrapheneOS is the goat, imo. Hopefully we'll get more devices supported soon.

Not perfect, you'd probably want to change away from Google for example, and Microsoft/Google seem to get your IP address or location along with the search, to get relevant results. Still seems leagues better than Google or Bing directly, and the issue seems to mostly be Google/Microsoft getting data, rather than Ecosia collecting data for itself.

  • you don't pay up front at the ER, and there's nothing stopping you from just not paying. Hospitals will want the money, though, and they'll harass you to get it.

In those extreme circumstances you might get NGO or GoFundMe money to pay for your medical care, or if the National Guard gets deployed for a natural disaster they might be able to treat really minor wounds for free. Some Hospitals have financial aid, but that's usually by poorness, not emergency. Some hospitals will give free care if they're connected to a University, or you're getting experimental treatment and/or are a part of a research group, but that's only some of their patients, generally just for chronic diseases, and doesn't necessarily pay for everything. Some certain hospitals will have specific things for some people that are free, I remember a certain hospital treating gunshot wounds for free or something like that, thanks in part to a deal with the state.

  • Interacting with people on the internet can be wild, people aren't even willing to copy and paste stuff into the searchbar, or click on links. It makes having conversations with some people basically impossible.

  • Protecting Pedophiles is the worst kind of government, except for all the other ones we've tried.

I mean, can you imagine living in a country that doesn't Protect Pedophiles? Only crazy authoritarian communists would want that.

  • but fr North East Ohio Regional Sewer District seems awesome, shame they're in Ohio.

  • That's where they stick the flourine into the water. Don't be mislead by the color and smell, you should be drinking the soup. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, amirite?

  • The More Perfect Union video has a guy saying that 25-30% of local farmers in that area lost their farm.

And why would so many farmers commit suicide if it wasn't that bad? The More Perfect Union also talks about how they have one of the highest rate of suicides, and in that community 5 farmers out of a few hundred committed suicide in a single year.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl02K72QFS0

Maybe it's not as bad as media presents or whatever, but it's not like it's going great for farmers.

  • stripping the land owning class of their assets.

It's not like shrinking the number of land owners is good, though?

  • "this content cannot be accessed at the moment" ???

  • yo, buldak is fire

  • On one hand way too few leftists mask, on the other hand the only people I know still masking are leftists. The only orgs, meetings, and groups that require masks in my area are leftist. I'm sure some individual liberals mask, but not many, and important liberal groups seem to not mask at all. The IWW convention mandatory masks, IWW branches mostly mandate masks, the SWP mandates masks, local PSL mandates masks (idk about nationally), local picket group mandates mask, local DSA masks, etc.

It's just kinda hard for me to appreciate this punching left when every criticism is 1000 times worse among every other political position. Biden literally ended masking mandates nationally, and long ago stopped wearing masks.

Leftists aren't doing enough, but nobody else is doing anything, at all. Influential liberals have stopped masking years ago, influential right-wingers never masked, influential "non-political" or "centrist" people might as well be those right-wingers with how little they mask.

  • There were those massive climate walkouts back in 2019, a lot of Middle Schoolers participated just like the High Schoolers

  • Yeah, the size and coordination of the walkouts have been wild. Something like a dozen high schools walked out near me all at once, with basically every student leaving and all marching downtown to meet up together. Kids I'm related to, kids that have had internships, really all the teens I know, have all walked out over ICE in the past few weeks.

  • Didn't he move to a much more expensive place in Georgia (US State) last year?
