They’re usually basketball shoes and they’re for use on a indoor basketball court only. The different shoes are worn by different players so there is some meaning to each of them. It’s part of the flare of the game.

Yes the entire hobby is manufactured but people can still enjoy it.

I don’t really see the appeal of any hobby where you just buy mass produced shit to let it sit on a shelf

I think having a backlog of books you intend to read that cost you maybe 10-50 bucks individually (barring collectors items) is wildly different from having a wall of shoes you’ll never wear that individually cost you anywhere from $100-$1000 (I’m not actually sure about the prices but I know scalpers go hard for this shit so 1000 doesn’t seem crazy).

You’re scared of puddles because your shoes will get dirty

I’m scared of puddles because I have holes in my shoes

    We are not the same

I’m all for hobbies and people enjoying themselves. But there is somethimg about owning 100 sneakers or 100 funko pops that i just kinda feel gross about.

Especially since sneakers are just a different flavor of fast fashion.

Collecting is a hobby that’s just about consuming.

Sure it can be a joy in hunting for the thing, going to estate auctions in weird places you’d never otherwise find yourself, taking a risk on a super beat up <thing you collect> then cleaning and repairing it to make it worthy of being part of your collection. Or better yet making your own <thing you collect> from scratch, or as a Frankenstein of multiple dead <things you collect> into one functioning one

But just hunting for stuff that was mass produced extremely recently and can’t be meaningfully restored, modified or repaired? I just have a hard time seeing that as a hobby. Hobbys are supposed to be time sinks first, money sinks second. A good hobby can usually be done fairly cheaply if you’re willing to put in more work. I don’t see how just buying stuff and putting it on a shelf can be as satisfying as spending hours making/repairing something.

All right shoes. Due to a collection method of going into a shoe store, trying on display models that fit, then just running for it.

            It’s not a shoe collection, it’s a trophy collection.

I see it the same as the people that collect those funco pops or whatever. I don’t get that, either. Or collecting plates or old soda cans.

But, worst case scenario, at least you can wear the shoes if they ever stop being worth money because the government has destroyed the economy and we’re all living in a Mad Max world.

At least shoes can be used as shoes.

Funkopops was the ugliest toy line I’ve ever seen get popular until CumCrybaby came along

I’m 99.99% sure that Funksopop development was based on someone saying at some point, “wait, can we just paint the same injection moulded plastic different ways and people will still want to collect them at a premium price?”

Though at least they didn’t add the gambling aspect where you don’t know what you’re getting until after you buy it with some rare ones intended to get people to buy way more than the size of the collection.

My cousin got into them pretty early in life. He lived in a cooler climate. I lived in rain every day more than likely South Florida and he came to visit one time and asked me to give him a piggie back a few times while he was visiting. He asked how I dealt with it all the time not realizing I was ever only in boots, flippy floppies, or barefoot.

I picked up a pricey hobby that makes me scared of puddles. And trees. And power lines. Wind. Tall grass. Birds.

    I love flying FPV

Last year, I got sneakers with a canvas cover to combat my stinky feet. And they’re heckin’ excellent for that. But yeah, now rain is scary. If too much comes from above, you get soggy feet. And if too much came from above, you’ve got dirt puddles that can somehow dye the white rubber rim. 🫠

Nerds yelling about others hobbies. This should be a fun one.

Please go ahead and tell everyone how your $200 mechanical keyboard collection is such a chad hobby.
