  • Thanks, I'm highly traumatized and have learnedfrom bad experiences how to recognize a lot of bad behaviors early.

    Didn't save me from getting fucked over by my most important ex though, I didn't see their toxicity or abusiveness until it was mauling me. I don't know if there's any amount of perception that can keep someone completely safe.

  • In Bruges is set around Christmas time and the fact that Christmas is coming up is relevant. There's snow. It's my favorite movie, Christmas or no, but it's definitely my favorite Christmas movie.

  • Today I got coffee from a new place I found on my way home, and the bariata was so pretty, but by conventional standards around here she wouldn't have be considered so. It really drove home to me how very white supremacist the dominant beauty standards here are. I didn't say anything about any of that of course, but it did get me thinking about body image / why I don't understand why people find me attractive.

  • I watched Everybody Loves Raymond with my mom when I was young and she told me every single character in it is demonstrating some fatal character flaw, and these people are models of how not to be.

    Raymond is an insecure people pleasure who bends to everyone's whims and lies pathologically because eh wants people to like him more then he wants to have a spine or principles.

    Robert is a cop (and deeply insecure)

    Marie is overbearing, manipulative, and doesn't respect anyone's boundaries.

    Frank is a caustic asshole who can't let his guard down and just be kind yo the people he loves.

    Debra is a pushover who puts up with these other assholes who make her miserable instead of just saying "y'all are pathetic, I'm getting a divorce from your entire family". Yes she complains and tries go be the voice of reason, and that's good, but she never succeeds because it would be impossible for her to fix these people

  • Rare case of this not being race related (probably), and gonna have to be vague about this, but I do get grim satisfaction from seeing people slowly begin to realize that someone I called out as Bad News a year and a half ago is in fact creepy, gross, toxic, predatory. &nbsp;AGAIN. &nbsp;This is like the 7th time this has happened that I can remember off the top of my head. &nbsp;I don't go making this judgement willy nilly so I can have stopped clock moments, it's pretty rare that I'll assess someone this way and warn people. &nbsp;But I keep being vindicated eventually.

    I mean I had no proof, all I had was this feeling of "his sense of humor is gross in ways I cannot articulate, and he seems unctuous. &nbsp;Why are y'all making friends with him? &nbsp;Only he can benefit from this association, at your expense, and if anything of him rubs off on you or he encourages any such tendencies in you, you will be made into a worse person. &nbsp;You think you can grow your small business by networking with this content creator? &nbsp;He'll use you and you'll be sullied by association when he gets cancelled." &nbsp;I tried to say as much, I was told "no you don't get him he's way better in person." I no longer even see the "friend" I'd tried to warn. &nbsp;But I'm seeing people complain about this dude and how he's probably going to get MeToo'd because he's very obviously gross and all I can say is, I told them. &nbsp;I fucking told them. &nbsp;May they all go down with that ship, because they deserve each other.
