thanks to this comment for making me aware of this
This is why the Simpsons is set in Springfield without a state name. That way you could imagine it’s not too far away.

A magical kingdom with inexplicable borders

🤯
Yes, but Matt groening confirmed it is Oregon
TIL people didn’t know there are tons of Springfields. Unless you’re not from the US, of course, then you obviously get a pass.
i’m not from the US :)
Til
Tilyl
Tilyliltyl no stop… This will go on forever. We both learned a lot today and that’s good enough.
UNGLAUBLICH
Is there a story to why there is a 12th Gandalf? : )
yeah because i am the gandalf of 12 o clock, the gandalf of midnight :)
and how many Oceanside are there?
None around me, because I don’t live near an ocean. Got a shitload of Sunnysides, though.
Have a spring? Have a field?
You have water and space. Put some people on it you have a town in the making.
yeah makes sense actually. sudden realization
Its so fun how words become new things in different contexts. Like awesome to describe the awe and terror a volcano erupting provoked to how I describe the burger I had last night.

i’m sure there has to be a “sprangfelden” somewhere near the dutch-german border
Quellfeld. Or maybe Feldquell. Possibly Lenzfeld. Sprungfeld is at least plausible.
It’s a hell of a town!
…the school yard’s up and and the shopping mall’s down
Monorail…mono…d’oh!!!
The stray dogs go to the animal pound 🎵
IIRC, the reason The Simpsons is in Springfield was becsuse every state in the US has a city of that name and they didn’t want the family to be from any specific state.
Yes. It’s because Matt Groening lived near Springfield, Oregon while Mike Skully was from Springfield, Massachusetts. This gave them the idea that everyone will think it’s “their Springfield” and leaned into the joke of it.
You’re right about the producers not wanting it to be in any specific state, but there is no city or town name that exists in every state. There’s only a Springfield in 34 states, but it’s one of the most common names.
Not true, there is no Springfield, Hawaii, for example.
And in every Springfield, there’s a COBRA base.
Legit, that was lore in the comics
New Jersey is like fuck it! Why can’t we have more than one?
Springfield, KS is a ghost town.
I don’t see Springfield, Pennsylvania.ahh, because it’s a township? Springfield townshipyeah i had to cap it because my screen is not a fucking snake you see,
Sssspringfield
Let’s not forget about Springfield Township (Montgomery County, PA)
Or, for that matter, Springfield Township (Bucks County, PA)
EDIT: for good measure because your link didn’t play nice with some anti tracking extensions I’m using Springfield Township (Delaware County, PA)
I make no guarantee that there aren’t others. I can’t be bothered to look.
That is hilarious. I only knew of “Springfield” in Delaware County. I put quotes as I’ve only know it as such, hearing it referred as such from everyone living there.
Seeing three counties that border each other, each have a similarly named Township, i imagine thousands more.
Lol, Pennsylvania has 9 townships named Springfield.. How original.
NJ has at least three Washington Townships.
Now I wanna see a table ranking of all the repeatedly used city \ village names.
