People have itchy palms? Itchy enough that they bite them?

    That’s fucking weird.

That’s literally never happened to me, it sounds super strange. Are y’all putting stuff on your hands that’s tearing up your skin? Do you moisturize regularly?

I have sensitive skin, but spend a lot of time in a kitchen with wet hands. Unscented soap to wash my hands about a dozen times a day, and unscented moisturizer to keep my skin from cracking. I’ll use a thicker waxy moisturizer during the winter when it’s really dry out.

I use my hands for weightlifting and golf, so I have to manage my callouses, and in the kitchen I’ll pick up various small cuts and burns. My hands don’t look perfect but they’ve never… itched?

Your comment makes you seem shocked like a victorian era man seeing a woman’s bare ankle in public.

I don’t know why, but ok?

Itchy palms sounds more like an allergic reaction than a common issue.

That’s a good example of what i mean. Allergic reactions are common issues.

It’s normal to not have an itch and it’s normal to itch. Both can be true simultaneously and neither is weird.

Granted it’s a comment on Lemmy but at a larger scale this kind of incredulous comment can reinforce stigmas.

Sometimes the itch feels so deep that just scratching with your nails doesn’t cut it.

I don’t even understand what she’s doing. Biting herself as a distraction? Scratching her palm with her teeth? I don’t know anyone who does this.

Sometimes scratching just isn’t cutting it, and the human brain is…well it’s something and it tells me bite the itch cause teeth are stronger and you try and it doesn’t help.

Oh, but it does. It helps soooo much. Something about the pinpoint pressure in just the right spot just hits so good… But you can’t just keep biting it forever, and generally the itch comes back again soon after.

It’s so itchy you bite it to make that spot painful just for a bit to override the itchiness.

Understanding isn’t necessary. The call to bite is there and it somehow works, so you don’t question it. I don’t grind me teeth to mimic scratching - just bite.

    I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE???

But seriously though there’s something about a palm being itchy, especially the thicker pad where the hand begins to transition into the wrist that just is so much more persistent than anywhere else.

Old puritan folklore had it that masturbating would cause hair to grow on one’s palm and the intense itching was a sign that someone was doing the deed. Which called for a whooping.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

The rules are simple:

  • The post can be a single image, an image gallery, or a link to a specific comic hosted on another site (the author’s website, for instance).
  • The comic must be a complete story.
  • If it is an external link, it must be to a specific story, not to the root of the site.
  • You may post comics from others or your own.
  • If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
  • The comic can be in any language, but if it’s not in English, OP must include an English translation in the post’s ‘body’ field (note: you don’t need to select a specific language when posting a comic).
  • Politeness.
