    The “Hetfield Effect” describes rockers who are anti-establishment in their youth who often become more conservative as they age and are both wealthy and no longer able to be conscripted. Or, if we were to borrow a term from the boomers, “I got mine, fuck you.”

    There’s a similar issue from earlier this century of artists who turn into copyright maximalists once they’re ridiculously successful, forgetting the mixtape culture and the mp3 culture is what led to concert ticket sales and t-shirt sales.

    But yeah they get old and afraid their gazillions are going to run out even when their tours are still selling out from albums released forty years ago, and they have a robust investment portfolio.

        Megadeth is very much Dave Mustaine’s band and Mustaine is a vocal born again Christian, former drug addict, former practicing witch, provacatour, loud mouth, and opinionated twat, there’s almost nothing about Mustaine that isn’t deeply offensive either currently or previously to almost every person. hell of a virtuoso guitar player, terrible person to be in audible proximity of.

      Shoulda just taken out the whole band if I’m being honest. They would still be legends and we wouldn’t have seen what gigantic pieces of shit they all were. Also no one would have to even knows who Lars is which would be a huge win for humanity.

        What’s the problem specifically with Lars? I haven’t been in that deep about Metallica stuff in general.

        I know he’s a mediocre drummer at best, but that’s kinda where my knowledge about him ends

          Dude is the most establishment, greedy, douche in metal. Personally, my Napster account was banned way back when and I got an RIAA letter too! So absolutely fuck that guy. I could probably dig deeper into the shit he’s done but like this was enough for me to never listen to any Metallica song again.

            I wasn’t around yet when the whole napster thing happened. From what I understand, it was a huge music sharing website. Did it work P2P like thepiratebay? Or was there an actual legal entity behind it? And if yes, how did they profit?

              it was a centralized p2p system. you connect to the napster server and announce your library. anyone can search the currently-online library, and then request the files from the individuals. that central search system is what was targeted. decentralization efforts were made by some others, but it was around this time that we got bittorrent anyway.

      Facts.

      Skipped through each track on the Black album in '91, and could not believe the betrayal. Never heard any release after that.

      They became Metallica2 after the Bob Cock treatment. Palatable radio-play soylent.

      They were never metal, they just sounded like it. As soon as they got a voice and money, they hopped on the Corporate/Conservative bandwagon. They didn’t sell out on Black, they just stopped pretending.

          She basically does education videos for toddlers, especially early language training afaik. She regularly makes calls to support children in war- and disaster torn countries. When palastine became one of those, conservatives got pissy.
