  • Some Lawnmower Man* vibes

    *short story, not movie

  • Mary Trump predicted that us democracy wouldn't survive his reelection. Look at where we got in just a year. If the midterms don't go well I worry that she's right.

  • Get grieving relatives hooked on talking to bots, then sell them subscriptions to keep the bots running

  • The thumb and flash being similar is a clue that it probably isn't the category, although flash drives are more generally any type of drive with flash memory that connects through USB, and thumb drives are mostly referring to those small USB sticks. But zip is a physical drive (a separate thing from a zip file). It was only around for a few years in a sort of awkward limbo between floppies and CDs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_drive

  • For the 2018 olympics they did a series where they had athletes swap sports. Some of them had a closer connection (like figure skating and ice hockey) and others just seemed more random.

Then another channel later did some more in-depth vids on the same concept, with even some of the same overlap, like hockey and figure skating

  • Almost as expensive as printer ink

  • Different types of computer drives: floppy, flash, zip, and then thumb was another name for a USB drive

  • Except for maybe "miss", the other 3 are words for not just duds, but also for movies that perform poorly. Bomb and bust are mostly for financial failures as well. What words do you use for failed films?

  • sweetbreads

One of my favorite pair of words that don't get used much anymore is sweetmeat and sweetbread, with the former being candy and the latter being animal pancreas.

The etymology is that meat (from mete) just meant food, and bread (from bræd) meant flesh. Sweet used to mean a more generalized pleasant taste or sensation, rather than more specifically sugary.

Herring almost got me but after eliminating the "sauce" category there were words related to reading that were mixed with both perusing a book and speeding through it, and nothing quite fit fully. With Bombay not connecting to anything else and missus not really either, I found purple and the rest fell in place

  • Can't decide if that's better or worse than being an OP vending machine in another world. Damn that shit was disappointing. What's the point of taking isekai to an absurd place if you're just gonna play it straight and use all the same stupid tropes and bland plot progression as every other one?

  • You mean an entire empire could have existed a long time ago in a galaxy far far away?

  • Sean Connery’s brogue on a Russian naval captain

I like how his Highlander character adds Egypt, Japan, and Spain together to produce Scotland.

Sean Connery as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, an Egyptian immortal who has lived for centuries in both Japan and later Spain

  • Not after China gets done taking away the Stanley Cup!

  • That one seemed so obvious I thought it had to be wrong

Purple difficulty seemed off today, like that should've been blue. This one took me way longer than it should've because "buck" was throwing everything off when I didn't remember it as a chicken noise, only as a deer or a type of motion from a hoofed animal. So there weren't enough deer words to make a category and if I tried to do animal noises (cackle, squawk, hoot, cluck, scream(?)) it didn't fit with the leftovers. Seems more like an onomatopoeia anyway, whereas the other 3 were normal words. Like a rooster crows, it doesn't cockadoodledoo. Maybe some people say chickens are bucking but it sounds odd to me. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

  • Honestly the difficulty for the non-purples seems random half the time
