This is an incredibly vague term, and a million different kinds of politics can be hiding behind it. As a Marxist, I would say that “us” is the proletariat and “them” is the bourgeoisie. A racist would say that “us” is the Whites and “them” is everyone else. A neocon might say “us” is NATO and “them” is iran/china/russia.
I would generally agree with the sentiment that people are different offline versus on, but that’s because real world interactions have countless layers of complexity that online ones don’t, not because clearly identifying your enemies is a bad thing to do.
