          Why should a selfish pay for a turtle’s retirement when they’re not even the same species?

          That might be, but this is how things work in a society with a poverty problem and no social securities. This is how it has always worked. Except that 200 years ago you also had to account for the high mortality rate of children, so you had 6 kids in stead of 2.

          I’m not saying this is how you should do it, I’m saying this is the situation to which we’re returning if we stay this course.

            Or, you know, tax all billionaires to fund it, right? They could easily cough up.

        Idk but if we don’t figure it out someone’s going to pay for it. Technology allows us to make way too much excess wealth for these kinds of questions to be serious.

          I read this comment as a joke, but yeah. As much as you’d pay to support others, others would be paying to support you. The idea is that society would function like a living organism instead of as a big fuckin contest.
