Berries are easy to grow at home if you got any yard at all folks. Raspberries and blackberries will take over like weeds, blueberries are small but produce a lot if planted together, and they’re all native to the US - not to mention that there are definitely less marketable berries native to your area that are just as yummy and easy to grow.
Also figure out where your local mulberry trees are and go nuts.
This is great for when you need 5 quarts of berries in 2 weeks when they’re in season but unfortunately kids eat breakfast year round. First world problems for sure, kids ate fine before refrigerated shipping, but unfortunately grow your own doesn’t really solve the problem.

If they’re unpleasant but not moldy you can use them for like strawberry coulis, just chop them up and boil with sugar to make a syrup and strain out the seeds and solids
Yeah, it’s certainly not a solution, but it helps offset and is fun and rewarding in its own right. I think the target of home food production should be to offset exactly stuff like berries - fresh, expensive by weight, doesn’t store or travel cheaply like grains or beans. Plus they’re super low-effort once they’re going.
One of the reasons I started getting into growing herbs, like I love fresh basil but you can eat my shit and hair if you think I’m gonna pay several dollars for 6 leaves.
Just freeze a bunch of them. I still have blackberries in the freezer from years ago.
Can always jar or jam them, keeps them a heck of a lot longer this way

I didnt even try to grow any and got some, the crows realized I don’t micromanage my yard and have been shitting berry bush seeds into my flower beds. I’ve got like 3 different kinds of berry bushes congealed into one big bush thanks to my crow comrades. I let them have as much as they want they did all the work after all
I do legitimately think it is a concerted effort on their part, I notice them rifling around in the dirt and pooping in holes they make with their beaks

I have a strawberry plant in a hanging basket and as long as the basket is big enough so watering doesn’t become a huge issue, it produces all summer. There are constantly producing varieties that work well in hanging baskets.
Also saw a hanging basket rasberry in a garden store a few weeks back, no idea how well it grows, but it’s sold for that at least.
I found strawberries ridiculously easy as well. They fruit early in the year and will spread like crazy if you let their runners do their thing (this was in a full sun yard that was also good for broccoli and tomatoes, but not as good for lettuce, nor roots like onions and carrots).

What’s the cause of strawberries exploding in price over bananas? They don’t really go into it, just say that imports are up and people eat more berries.
Probably just generally harder to grow (probably more drought vulnerable) and harder to transport (bananas can be picked under ripe and have a waxy outer layer) and they’re almost certainly still murdering guatemalan and Colombian peasants to keep labor costs so low that bananas are cheaper than apples which, for some reason i don’t remember, is important to making the entire horrific enterprise economically viable
the lying machine had nothing to say about that but it claims bananas are also priced super low on purpose because “people expect them to be more expensive” and it gets people in the door
i dunno about all that, but the strawberries and grapes im purchasing from a very reputable wholesaler seem to be rotting much quicker than usual.
cannot recommend enough the frozen fruit. way more for the buck and more consistent than fresh
