So I made out my grocery order today and loaded up on rice and beans, lean cut of meat, and some spinach and mushrooms. Prices of eggs is down so I got a dozen. I’m trying to follow the high protein diet they had me on in rehab to try and lose some weight.
I already do intermittent fasting, I usually stop eating by 9 pm, then head off to bed at 10 or 11 pm, and sleep through to 10 am the next day.
idk we shall see if I lose some weight? I don’t have a scale or anything which is funny, trying to lose pounds.
cw: discussion of caloric restriction
Not eating breakfast will help a lot.
Doing something similar myself. One thing that was cool and beneficial was doing a 72h water fast. It’s a great exercise in willpower and completely redefined my relationship with food.
A big issue I had was just eating whatever the heck whenever the heck with zero discipline or regard to why I was doing it. The fast was awesome for breaking those habits. Now if I feel hungry I can confidently tell myself, I can handle being hungry until my next meal, skip the chips. I have been way hungrier than this before.
There’s also good health benefits from autophagy which peaks between 48 and 72 hours of fasting.
Breakfast skip is an easy win because it’s only 2-3 hours of discomfort and the extra 500 kcal makes a huge difference. Especially if like you, you sleep through it
Thanks for the encouragement
Good luck out there. There’s an entire industry that’s been built to addict us to unhealthy food.
Feel free to DM me any time if you need a word of encouragement. Helps to have allies in the fight

I love eating a few slices of bread from the store, still being hungry, and seeing the absurd amount of calories I consumed after viewing the nutrition label
Ever tried cold showers (or more extreme, ice baths) for the mental health benefits? It’s not something I ever stuck to, but for me it was a good way to practice mind over matter. It can also help with anxiety.
Might give it a ago since it’s summer soon
The only thing that ever worked for me was counting calories and protein and that meant putting shit on a food scale for a while until I knew roughly what to expect. Then losing 18kg wasn’t a very big deal. It was effort, but without counting protein I felt like I was being hollowed out.
Good on you, comrade

I wanna preface this with the fact that I dont wish to discourage lecture you; I dont know your situation no more anyone else! I hope this advice is helpful in some way as someone who is also trying to improve their health in different ways but also has experience with how this can be difficult to maintain or even lead to the opposite affect over time.
losing weight doesnt necessarily mean healthier, which I must stress because that can and will become a very harmful mindset to adopt.
If you are hungry, then eating is okay! this might be a weird thing to say, and maybe not applicable to all people, to be fair. I really do think it’s important to remember though, as changes in diet that assume restriction is inherently good are the diets that can quickly revert when you associate that original state with the (rightfully) positively feelings from fullness and dopamine.
However, adopting a wider variety in your meals is always good, and the rates of fiber and other nutrients in a diet driven by meals with less meat are routinely associated with better health outcomes regardless of your weight.
Making these changes can open you up to new cuisines, new favourite meals, and new skills that come with cooking a different sryle of food. To embed this into a sustainable change in your life means being kind to yourself when you try new meals that don’t go well, and making this change gradual in your daily life. Pairing it with exercise like walking, swimming, gardening, woodworking, or other activity you might enjoy is also another way to make a positive and long term impact on your health.
In general though I wish you good luck! any big change in life is a lot lol.
Thanks, I have realistic goals about losing weight, dropping like 10 or 20 lbs would be for the best since I’m over 200 lbs.
Mucho agreement with the above.
Good on you comrade, its important to takecare of oneself
As a certified former fat guy(topped out at 350lbs, float around 230 today), the only dietary focus that ever really worked for me was fibremaxxing. High protein focus does help suppress hungry cravings, but in my xp fibre focus is even better in this aspect. I have a bottomless stomach and getting 50-70% of my daily cals from high fibre foods helped this massively
If your physically able, just wandering around a park or just your neighbourhood for an hour everyday is also does wonders for increasing your daily caloric expenditure
These two things combined lead to me bein healthier then I pretty much ever had been
Preemptive sorry on possibly unwanted advice, can’t help it when managing my own weight has always been a massive task
congrats and thanks for the tips! I have been walking, 15 min a day starting out
Thanks comrade and anytime! Shits hard and information on how to actually be healthy is filled with tons of nitpicky dumbassery
If you ever want more tips n shit feel free to DM and godspeed on your own efforts
I like to snack on carrots and sunflower seeds because I don’t feel guilty about them. I also make protein smoothies with some protein powder, frozen fruit, peanut butter, some handy fresh fruit, and chia seeds for the fiber. Another is peanut butter spread inside celery (so it fills the gap) and then put some kind of topping. In fact a lot of raw veggies are great with peanut butter now that I think about it. Peanut butter is a stealthy high protein food.
Hard agree on the importance of protein. If you want a cheaper, less caloric equivalent to ground beef (and vegan). I highly recommend textured vegetable protein. Stir in some tomato paste and minced garlic and some other seasonings and you got a good ground beef for tacos and shepherd’s pie and whatnot.
