The president is also pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. The move follows a pardon for his son Hunter, who was prosecuted for gun and tax crimes.

Others are advocating for Biden to commute the sentences of federal death row prisoners. His attorney general, Merrick Garland, paused federal executions. Biden had said on the campaign trail in 2020 that he wanted to end the death penalty but he never did, and now, with Trump coming back into office, it’s likely executions will resume. During his first term, Trump presided over an unprecedented number of federal executions, carried out during the height of the pandemic.

Yeah, well watch that not happen.

America’s bloodlust can never be satiated.

Trump will probably bring back gladiatorial combat as a Twitter video exclusive.

People have loved gladiatorial combat since time immemorial.

I mean look at the popularity of Pokemon even to this day. It’s basically baby’s first Mandingo fight. Even kids can see the appeal of sending creatures enslaved to you to fight each other :>

He can pardon him now. It’s only the crime (or even alleged crime) that needs to have happened before the pardon. Consider Ford’s pardon of Nixon, which occurred before Tricky Dick was indicted.

Meh. These are people who were deemed too sick and old to be any kind of threat during the fucking Trump administration and released from prison back then because of the pandemic. These people should have all gotten pardons years ago, and it doesn’t do anything to alleviate or address all the suffering and human rights abuses being suffered by people who are actually in prisons.

        Commutations, not pardons.

They’re still convicted felons, and we must assume deservedly so (I acknowledge some crimes are bullshit, eg marijuana charges).

They don’t particularly deserve pardons, they deserve humane sentences for their crimes – actual rehabilitation, mental health support, etc.

Edit: I am also wondering if you’re consistent with the people Trump pardoned or if you’re having double standards because it’s not your party. As I wouldn’t want ANY president pardoning family members, regardless of political leaning.

Literally the very first paragraph of the story. The very first.

President Joe Biden is commuting the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the coronavirus pandemic and is pardoning 39 Americans convicted of nonviolent crimes. It’s the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.

Why? Because the president has arguably unlimited power to pardon federal crimes.

LOL you dumbfucks think somehow you are making the world a better place by forcing people who don’t want to interact with you to interact with you? The only belief you’ve challenged here is that basic courtesy is a good thing.

                  And your challenge failed.

                  Plonk.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source.

Posts which titles don’t match the source won’t be removed, but the autoMod will notify you, and if your title misrepresents the original article, the post will be deleted. If the site changed their headline, the bot might still contact you, just ignore it, we won’t delete your post.
