lemmy.ml is filled with people who sort the instance by new comments and hit the F5 button nonstop. It’s why there is such quick and violent hate the moment you do not pay attention to where you are in All and make a random, unimportant comment.
when I first got on lemmy, I went to .ml since that is where the devs were. I figured that it would be nice to be on the most updated instance. I didn’t know what ML was. I lasted very little time before running away. It’s shocking how insecure and angry people are there.
I was on Lemmy for about a month before I figured out the whole .ml thing. I’m honestly surprised it took that long.
Same. For my first month here I thought tankies were MAGA. To the untrained eye, it can be easy to confuse the two, until you look again. They’re just as ignorant and dumb.

I think there’s a lot to be said for critiquing the flaws of our democracy, but doing so by adhering yourself to even worse authoritarian types is wild to me.
They are virtually the same when it comes to how loathsome they are. The biggest difference is one of them has the strength of conviction to stand on their ignorance and commit to it, the other just likes to play pretend on the internet.

.ml is pretty explicit on their “about us” page that they have a specific political orientation and will censor dissenting opinions.
Now you have learned. Plenty of other instances that aren’t as heavily censored.
It boils down to “this is a choir that only preaches to itself. Facts aren’t allowed here. And will be removed if we don’t like it.”
Choirs don’t preach, the metaphor sort of falls apart like that. Maybe “A church that only preaches to its own choir” would be better.

I can see giving China the benefit of the doubt, but giving it to Russia and North Korea is particularly egregious.

What a coincidence, I got banned from world_news@lemmy.world for exactly the opposite reason.
It wasn’t even something I brought up at all, I said something completely unrelated and someone started hounding me about it and demanding an answer, and I said that I hadn’t seen sufficient evidence to conclude it was a genocide.
Then a mod posted some links, and I asked, “before I go through these, if I ctrl+F “Zenz” how many hits am I gonna get?” and that’s when I got banned. I did go through them anyway, and the answer was 18.
I had also made a comment explaining how claims don’t get to magically subvert the normal process of scrutiny just because they involve the word “genocide,” and how, if anything, more extreme claims should be subject to greater scrutiny, not less. That comment was removed for “genocide denialism.”
So, nowadays, I’ve learned my lesson, that as long as I’m on .world, all claims of genocide must be accepted unquestionably, regardless of evidence. You could tell me that France is genociding Belgians or that Morrocans are genociding Kansans, whatever, and I won’t question or deny it. After all, basing your beliefs on evidence means that you’re just blindly following, uh, whoever the claims happen to be about this time, which probably makes you an authoritarian tankie. You have to accept all negative claims about US geopolitical adversaries, without question, to be a free-thinking anti-authoritatian.
However, my ban wasn’t for 30 days, it was permanent. “You can’t handle the truth” indeed.

The misconception is with what these pages are. They are not public forums. They are the personally dictated and directed blog of the moderators, they allow the public to contribute but have final say on publishing.
Once you realize these are ignorant kids blogs it makes sense that you would get banned for trying to have a discussion instead of perpetuating whatever world view they are trying to spew.

I probably wouldn’t have banned you for your comment, but it seems like you were minimizing how genocidal modern dems are by saying “GOP started it!”.
Getting banned used to be a badge of shame meaning you were a bigot or troll.
