I think shitting on Americans for every little thing they handle differently is moronic but I will say I won’t ever order food that’s advertised as “footlong”. That’s just needlessly gross. I don’t like to imagine the cashier lining up a sandwich with their bare sole for quality control but that’s the kinda mental image the term conjures up.

Footlong sandwiches have nothing to do with the body part “foot”.

They hardly have anything to do with the measurement “foot” since they are like 10.5 inches (~26cm) now or something (as opposed to the 30ish centimeters that make a foot).

This is part of the enshittificaton of Subway.

Their cookies are still dope tho.

I’m like 60% sure during the height of subway in mid-2000s-early 2010s the subway commercials actually did advertise the foot long as being 12 inch sub’s for 5$ (goddamn the 5$ foot long ads were catchy). However unlike real measurements that have defined standards, as subway enshitified they weren’t forced to change naming as they slowly shrank the sandwiches. Of course this is long enough ago that an entire generation doesnt know who Jared was so its okay to assume it was never a real foot long.

Heck, the US can’t even standardize on meters. We have volt meters, amp meters, flow meters, sound meters…

many people wonder that, why are feet so desired? sure, there are people that are into every crevice of the body, but feet seem to be winning the popularity race by a lot? hell, even otherwise vanilla people like them sometimes

the answer issss… (probably) that our spaghetti wiring of the nerves is to blame. you see the nerves responsible for feet connect to the spinal cord riiiight next to where our genitals connect as well. so sometimes the more intense signals tickle the unintended paths next to their intended one. some people when they orgasm (myself included) can feel a wave of electricity running down into their feet, even making one or multiple of their toes curl.

picture of a diagram of the spinal cord, the relevant nerves being Lumbar nerves (Lx) and Sacral nerves (Sx)

Lumbar spine L1 – the first lumbar nerve is responsible for sensations around the groin and genitals, and has a role in motor control of the hips. L2, L3, L4 convey sensation for the front and inside of the thighs, and extend to the inner aspect of the lower legs. L5 nerve region covers the outside of the thighs extending into the outer aspect of the top of the lower legs.

Sacral Spine S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 nerves provide some nerve supply to the genitals, as well as the anus, sacrum, buttocks and the backs of the thighs. The pudendal nerve is the nerve bundle comprising nerves from S2-S4 and which is the primary nerve of the perineal area.

As someone who isn’t into feet, I’ve always just assumed it’s because uncovered feet are vaugely intimate. As in feet are mostly covered by shoes but when you get to see them uncovered it might just mean the situation has gotten intimate. I mean that’s basically the idea behind any societal view which dictates that women should cover any particular part of their body, it’s not that muslim people inherently find hair sexy, it’s the societal norms which attached an intimate meaning to hair.

I have to agree with this one. I acknowledge that feet are indeed connected to genitalia via nerves, but I highly, highly doubt that’s the reason that viewing a woman’s bare feet makes some men horny. I don’t think the foot fetish is about her and/or her nerves or pleasure at all. It’s a simple matter of getting to see an often delicate looking body part that is usually concealed, and being allowed to interact with them in a sexual way. I’m more of a butt/thighs/hips guy, myself.

viewing a woman’s bare feet makes some men horny

how heteronormative and male centric. what about women who like male feet? what about queer people who like feet?

It’s a simple matter of getting to see an often delicate looking body part that is usually concealed, and being allowed to interact with them in a sexual way

That’s really not how it works. Sure, there may be some of that, but it’s not a “simple matter” as you described at all. There’s much, much more to it than that.

That was your takeaway? That I wasn’t inclusive in who potentially finds the feet arousing? Plug in whatever you would like. I’m not making fucking rules here.

Not so much that you weren’t inclusive. More that society at large isn’t. You didn’t deserve the ire I directed at you but the ire is still there.

So much default assumption that anything foot fetish related has to be only men being into only women’s feet. It drives me crazy. Not your fault and I apologize for the snark.

yes lol. have you seen a bikini? that’s explicitly intimate and provocative. it’s the most naked you’re allowed to be in public without people calling you out.

beaches are often considered inherently sexual places. like “Beach episode” is synonymous with fan service.

so you genuinely believe you’ve been intimate with your friends just because you’ve seen some exposed skin?

I’m not going i argue the symantics of what “intimate” means. the point is that the beach is a sexual place for certain.

i have been intimate with many of my friends. much of it starts at the beach lol.

don’t forget the shame. the wrongness of it is very much part of it. like, most people think feet are kind of gross, so it feels taboo to like them. taboo is one of the strongest things in fetishes. “this is so wrong/dirty” is a powerful thought for the horny mind.

honestly, if/when society becomes more accepting of foot fetishes i bet that will actually decrease the number of people that have one. if society stops shaming them it likely won’t get them off the same way.
