Sorry for posting roachman, but this guy using leftist speak to try and paint chuds as oppressed is the funniest shit to me.

Women have always been in the gaming industry, they were just ignored for the most part.

Video games were marketed as boys toys in the past, but even then girls played them and never had a problem playing as a male character.

If you can relate to a cartoon plumber that says mama mia and wahoo, but can’t relate to a women, I am deeply concerned for you. You don’t even have to relate to the main character to enjoy the game. I don’t relate to Kris Deltarune in the slightest, but I still enjoy the shit out of those games.

Posting about “franchises built off the back of iconic male protagonists” and then posting The Last of Us (one game), Ghost of Tsushima (one game), and Uncharted (nobody gives a fuck about Nathan Drake lmao) is very funny.

Also very interesting to use Dad of War Kratos considering that AFAIK the first reboot had already mostly moved away from “I am so angry I am going to personally murder every figure in greek mythlogy” to the new more mature tone. Similar for Witcher 3; whatever criticisms I have of it, you’re not collecting trading cards by having sex with all the named female characters. Unless these guys are suggesting we retvrn to fucking horrendous click-based combat.

Im pretty sure that’s a popular opinion. It was at the time that was happening at least. I think people liked it in god of war but didnt like it being used badly in every other game. Re4 is an example off the top of my head cause I recently scored the wii version at a pawn shop! Re4 on the wii is kinda the best cause it’s super super easy, the motion controls for aiming make it way faster than normal. You genuinely feel like Leon, a guy barely taking this seriously.

We can actually blame Shenmue 1 for creating QTEs (or at least coming up with the term specifically), and it came out a full 5 years earlier. GoW was just riding the trend imo; Resident Evil 4 came out the same year and already had QTEs, for instance.

Don’t know, it’s hard to say. We could look at stuff like sales numbers (it did okay but not in the top 10 for 2005 going by wikipedia) but that doesn’t say much about how other game devs were being influenced by it.

I think it’s most likely that it helped perpetuate the trend but it didn’t start it, nor was it the main driving factor.

Who was a discount gender flipped Indiana Jones, who was a discount amalgam of various 1930s era comics, which were usually cheap copies of nineteenth century penny dreadfuls, which were themselves cheap rip-offs of older renaissance and mediaeval tales, which were rehashes of ancient Roman stories, that were rip-offs from the Greeks, who copied the Egyptians, who mimicked the ancient Mesopotamians, who probably got it all from cave paintings.

I know the hate wasn’t that strong, but didn’t some chuds hate that the God of War soft reboot had a more mature tone? Also isn’t the new game just a spinoff anyway? So its not like she’s taking over the mainline.

Yeah, a lot of them complained about them “ruining” Kratos in Dad of Boy (but what they were actually mad about was the fact that women were now interested in playing the game, since Kratos was actually a character and not just a sexist rage monster)

Oh probably, frankly I think that the stories in both games are equally uninteresting because I just can’t care about Kratos struggling with being a single parent after he killed every living being in GoW 3.
