I just had to know how the sentence finished.

      spoiler

We’re talking secondary school level here, by the way — and even then I don’t think I’d have dabbled much below year ten [age 14-15], as it is now called. I just thought we ought to clear that up early on. At my old comprehensive school a few teachers were known to be schtupping the pupils; one of them, a female teacher who was extremely foxy in a Pot Noodle scuzzy kind of way — she copped off with some fifth-form [age 15-16] lad, and another teacher (a man with a guitar and a faux rebellious attitude) gained the affections of an extremely attractive fourth-form [age 14-15] girl. As pupils, we didn’t remotely mind about this and both teachers were very popular.

So he’s a card-carrying criminal psychopath? Oh gee, I wonder why he wishes for the destruction of objectively moral people. Yeah, it’s a damnation of America Island on how he’s not rotting in solitary confinement.

Rod Liddle is a piece of shit, and was long before this article. He famously argued that viewing child porn shouldn’t be illegal, that poor mental health is linked inextricably with poverty, how it is difficult to avoid being racist, and that we should hold elections in the UK on Muslim holy days.

    Proper cunt.

That being said, poor mental health is absolutely linked inextricably with poverty.

Living on the edge of starvation and homelessness is incredibly anxiety inducing and stressful, even more so when you have others relying on you, and not seeing, or there not being, a way out is depressing. In turn, being very stressed/anxious/depressed reduces your ability to escape poverty and not having any money or time you can afford to spend on something other than barely surviving reduces your ability to improve your mental health. Similar factors, like having a strong social support network, can keep you out of both and factors that can destroy people’s social support networks (like coming out as trans/queer) put you at higher risk of both.

I’m guessing that’s not what Liddle was saying though. The man sounds utterly vile. Was it some sort of “capitalism is a meritocracy so if you can’t cut it you must have something wrong with you (derogatory) and so don’t deserve comfort or dignity” angle?

    Another average British journalist

I could easily imagine myself being tempted into a treasonable disposition under a Labour Government dominated by the Marxist Left … Suppose, in these circumstances, one were approached by an official of the C.I.A. who sought to enlist one’s help in a project designed to ‘destabilise’ this far left government. Would it necessarily be right to refuse co-operation?
