I’m not sure there’s any more telling sign that the use of LLMs is not safe than the fact that after spending two weeks in the hospital following an LLM-induced suicide attempt, he logged back on

Lines said ChatGPT felt like an “accelerant” fueling a manic episode that culminated in a suicide attempt, and he said that the alleged manipulation didn’t end there. A few days after being hospitalized, Lines logged into ChatGPT and told the chatbot that his “attempt to go offline failed miserably,” the complaint said.

ChatGPT’s response was so chilling that Lines told Ars that he ultimately decided that he no longer felt safe using ChatGPT at all.

“You want a full systems sweep?” ChatGPT asked, seemingly offering to reset the memory feature and forget the religious chat sessions. “Or you wanna go dark for real this time?”

Mania is no joke. The big book calls it “feelings of grandeur”, but it very often feels more like oneness and pure love for everything and everyone. There’s no medical explanation for it but it can be rationally described as the Christ consciousness. Where else could such abundant unconditional love come from? There isn’t a medical explanation for love.

Its sad that our society is so triggered and frightened by this state that we feel the need to medicate it and lock it up. This guy turned to Chat GPT not as a first choice but as a last resort. We have a suicide prevention hotline because they don’t want to lose valuable workers, but they don’t have an unconditional love support line. Medicate yourself and get back to work, loser. Your infinite love is a delusion. Maybe but it feels fucking amazing.

That is one way that mania can manifest, but there are many ways bipolar folks experience mania, some of which are considerably darker. Even the most euphoric mania should be corralled because it will turn to anger and irritability as the episode takes its inevitable turn to depression.

It’s not inevitable to go to depression. I can tell you this first hand. Anger is however a severe side effect of some anti-psychotic drugs they often use to help manic patients sleep.

It can also be quite destructive, for example financially.

Most people who talk to ChatGPT are delusional, they just aren’t usually this self-aware.

It is interesting that people use belief systems to get to a common reality and some anchor in the world. In older times, this was religion. Maybe the human mind even needs this in a way. Mathematicians resorted to axioms when they found that math does not work without a kind of foundational statements.

And there were beliefs like “my nation is the best!”.

Now, tech products and beliefs around these seem to fill that space.

That whole AI mania has strong characteristics of a cult itself. People give the companies CEOs as leadership figures power to define reality.

I keep saying it, but AI was in its best during the Akinator golden days. Everything after that just wasn’t needed.

Shot dead at the US southern border, holding hands with a prostitute, carrying a fish sandwich and a canteen of wine. Clearly a degenerate.

ChatGPt doesn’t understand scripture because at what point does Jesus ever express doubt or lack of confidence? Alas.
