It’s funny, if I saw this in a film I’d say the CGI wasn’t quite convincing but this is apparently actually what a massive helicopter in a rice field looks like.

Something about this shot specifically though, because other images of the scene don’t give me that vibe.

Looks like an isometric game, like Project Zomboid.

      edit: isometric not isotropic lol

I think it’s the lighting/color grading from the sun being near its zenith, combined with the point of view. Makes it look like something that was rendered with ambient occlusion and contact shadows turned off.

Edit : also it just looks like a typical isometric game’s viewing angle

It’s not even a CH-53K King Stallion that’s even larger. However, the Russian Mi-26 dwarfs these things.

Those helicopters are ancient, falling apart and are basically flying death traps. The navy has had a really hard time figuring what to replace them with as one of their main uses for the Navy is to tow a sonar array underwater to hunt submarines.

Marines already started recieving the new 53Ks 4 years ago. It is completely new helicopter that just looks similar to the legacy Echo. Navy took awhile to buy the Ospreys, it is only a matter of time until they get 53Ks.

I recall hearing a helicopter pilot saying that they felt better flying Marine One because it was specifically capable of water landing and that made them less nervous about where they could put the thing in an emergency.

      Wikipedia is your friend.

The Marine Corps has been part of the United States Department of the Navy since 30 June 1834 with its sister service, the United States Navy.[12] The USMC operates installations on land and aboard sea-going amphibious warfare ships around the world. Several of the Marines’ tactical aviation squadrons, primarily Marine Fighter Attack squadrons, are embedded in Navy carrier air wings and operate from aircraft carriers.[13] These comprise the bulk of the US military’s V/STOL aircraft, with 313 V-22 Ospreys, 183 F-35B Lightning IIs, and 78 AV-8B Harrier IIs as of 2025.[14]

The US Navy is sundowning the platform, and like most assets deemed too old for the Navy, is likely now being transferred to the Marine Corp. The command gaining the asset hasn’t had the time to repaint it yet or the don’t have the paint because Marines have an issue with eating art supplies.
