i don’t want to smell like estrogen. i want to absolutely reek of it. I want it to be like cartoons where there’s a visible scent trail coming off of a pie and a hungry character starts floating towards the pie when they smell it, except I’m the pie. i want to look like i’m dropping off the formula of estrogen and people are crying that their family is transed.

In addition to lighting, makeup, haircut, and skincare, HRT has redistributed fat on her face, giving her fuller cheeks. She also has subtle on the left which highlights less feminine contours. It’s a huge glowup, but not impossible by any stretch. I bet you look more similar than you think.
It’s quite possible they used a different camera/lens because of how the proportions of their face also changed. But also makeup and good skincare can go a long ways as well.
As has been said, haircut and lighting are doing quite a bit. She also clearly didn’t lose weight in that year (many trans women will attempt to lose fat during transition or to actively maintain it, but a lot of the effects are fat redistribution as is visible here). She also is pretty young, and that could play a role here.
But also, yeah different people get different results from hormones.
