It’s a bland, clunky story with writing that occasionally manages to rise above the '80’s Saturday morning cartoon level. Without the draw of the LotR name and insane amounts of money dumped into the visuals which faithfully copy the look of the Jackson films, this show would have been lucky to make “cult show” status.

If you’re a LotR super fan, who just wants more LotR, give it a go. Otherwise, it’s probably not worth the time.

I am a LotR super fan. I’ve only seen an episode or two. It’s bland and soulless. I wish Christopher had safeguarded the IP better for after his death.

If you know Tolkien, it is apparently terrible beyond words. If you don’t, then it’s just a dull and ridiculous slog.

Eh, season 2 was where I tapped out. The scene where young Sauron escaped his prison, then turned to look back smiling, when he heard the death yell of someone he trapped with some hungry hound. That was just so comically stupid I couldn’t take it anymore.

Yes. It really made me appreciate LOTR a lot more since it’s way more explicit about the backstory of the nine rings, Numenor, the elves going west and so on.

It’s high production value, good performances. Not great art, but I liked it. Some excellent acting in season 2 especially.

Good, I believe every series should be judged on it’s entirety because so few of them are being told as a coherent story. This one is way from being over and most of criticism against it is that it’s not a faithful adaptation which is just silly. No huge hopes but it isn’t as bad as people say and proper ending might still elevate it.

Thankfully I forgot about the amazon guy for a minute there. “‘That’s Still Under Benzos’” is what I read and I was wondering what xanax and klonopin had to do with LotR.
