Audio equipment has been fully figured out for decades; the most widely-used mic for live settings nowadays is still the SM58 that came out in 1966. Audio quality mostly comes down to how good you are at recording and audio engineering and how much equipment you can afford.

The guy is Australian. But there was some confusion historically at the time I believe because the reason he was arrested was trying to dine and dash, but the police response was so dramatic because it was a case of mistaken identity with a European credit card fraudster who also liked to do that.
He has an old thespian accent, not quite the more common Kath and/or Kim.
