Why not ban buildings, too? They just get in the way of cars.
Motion to ban stoplights and stop signs for obstructing traffic
From what I’ve seen online of Indian traffic, that motion seems to have passed a long time ago
that’s exactly what many amercian cities are doing
That’s not a real picture. Please tell me it isn’t. I didn’t know it could get more carbrain than where I’m at
It’s a real picture of downtown Houston from 1980’s. Seems like things have improved since then but looking at google maps, the downtown is still like 50% parking.
Edit: found a map of parking spaces in Houston. It’s bad
Ah yes that will definitely solve the problem. In fact let’s take this to its logical conclusion and remove all of the buildings and sidewalks and everything else and just pave the entire city
Snowpiercer but it’s a giant highway
Snowpiercer is a train, with mini-trains inside. We can only dream about it.
Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all life long
That is basically an episode of Doctor Who
Fantastic
That would in a way be a teeny tiny bit more logical, because it creates more space, but removing the busses just force more people to use cars (as opposed to just incentivizing). Like this is just immediately making traffic worse

We are like 99% fascist. Just waiting for the BJP to abolish elections and imprison all opposition members.
because they can use BRT roads instead right?
Government bans vaccines amid small pox outbreak
RFK Jr moment
(It might have been measles, but either way he killed about a hundred kids)
India is interesting because ever since their economy started slowing down in 2016, the top 5-20% stopped buying small affordable cars and motorcycles because they couldn’t afford it while the top 5% started buying more expensive, larger cars. (i’m using percentiles because the media refers to the top 20% as the ‘middle class’ even though they are nowhere in the middle).
and the Government has been obsessed with building highways and widening existing highways even in places where it isn’t environmentally suitable, its been the ‘growth’ strategy. it increases the GDP once off but doesn’t have much impact the incomes of the working class, most of the spending ends up leaking into private contractors’ bank accounts and imports.
most of the spending ends up leaking into private contractors’ bank accounts and imports.
I mean… yeah. We want billionaires and contractors to become richer so then they’ll trickle it down to us. It’s basic economics. They’re learning from the best in the west
We also have a nearly 90% tax on cars and can’t drive these cars after 10 years for Diesel and 15 years for Petrol. Plus the government mixes Ethanol in the fuel to further fuck up the vehicles all while fuel is already far more expensive than it’s international rate and we have access to Russian fuel for even cheaper than that.
Infrastructure is bottom tier with bridges falling apart everytime it Rains a bit. No actual sewage system so water clogs everytime it Rains a bit. Roads are dogshit and riddled with traffic. Most people live like cockroaches in fucked up environments. Honestly I would rather move to Europe than live here.
Replacing every bus with 12 to 40 cars will surely reduce traffic during rush hour!
They are just making life worse for poorer commuters to no actual gain for the slightly less poorer commuters. I can’t imagine the rich in New Dehli don’t just use helicopters at this point. Absolute incompetence.

Can you explain how it’s anymore unique than other poor country besides the large population? China has shown that a billion people is something manageable with the right ideology in place.

i think the extreme individualism is partly the consequence of neoliberalism.
I genuinely think the only way the people of India can thrive or at least do better is if the country is partitioned into the states.
I kinda agree, it would allow states with larger communist movements to not be limited by the Indian Government. However, one of the things that makes India really resilient is its size, population and resources.
India’s smaller neighbors aren’t doing very well, in many ways much worse than India, Sri Lanka & Pakistan are under crippling external debt, Myanmar is in a civil war and Bangladesh just had a coup.
i think the extreme individualism is partly the consequence of neoliberalism.
Nah, I don’t think so. It’s certainly not made it any better but India has always been a collection of different ethnicities and culturesand the lack of communal welfare has plagued it for centuries.
There is a lot wrong with capitalist India, but to say that it has failed “in a way no other poor nation has” seems a bit hyperbolic. This is the country that is currently electrifying almost all of its rail lines and is doing so at a very fast rate. Modi is a fascist freak and the BJP sucks but there’s no reason to believe that India is uniquely failed. India struggles with poverty, capitalism, and reactionary ideology just like many other countries in the Global South.
India takes two steps forward while it’s not even standing on a flat surface.
What about sanitation, food, energy? It’s really good news it’s electrifying its railroads.

What do you mean? That it’s a bad look to perpetuate negative ideas about my own ethnicities to an audience of mostly white people?

I’m not sure I understand, can you elaborate?
It’s a beyond terrible look yes. I’m wayyy too tired and busy with work to type out paragraphs and have multiple back and forths about the sociology explaining why I think so though

I guess I’m very critical and cynical about anything related to India and Indians and I do wonder if my perspective is skewed or a truly objective oen, so I have to make that dosclaomer

It is extremely doubtful Indian communists will realize this.
If they understand dialectical materialism they’ll understand this
It’s not like you’re a fucking genius who has made a really difficult revelation or something lmao
As I mentioned, the whole “industrialization” discourse comes straight from the mouths of communists and Marxists economists even. Go read Hudson and him rambling about “financialization” as if that is the great evil of out time.
If they’ll realize this entirely depends if they continue to eat up this nonsense that the main evil is financial market people and not capitalists as a whole.
Hudson is a single guy that doesn’t organize
What does he have to do with the Indian movements
It is extremely doubtful Indian communists will realize this.
Why do you think it is extremely doubtful?
As I mentioned, the whole “industrialization” discourse comes straight from the mouths of communists and Marxists economists even. Go read Hudson and him rambling about “financialization” as if that is the great evil of out time.
If they’ll realize this entirely depends if they continue to eat up this nonsense that the main evil is financial market people and not capitalists as a whole.
And as I also mentioned there is a tendency to fetishizse Chinese policies and their condition as the worlds industrial leader as if that is replicable everywhere else. China dominates based a lot on the mistakes from capitalists 30 years ago(they called it globalization then) when they moved their factories to China.
But nobody got 30 years left and a favorable global trade status quo like China got to benefit from.
Just ban the fucker wtf. They’ll just quote some shit an Indian Marxist/org put out and extrapolate that opinion to all of our collective Indian comrades
Dictatorship of the bourgeoisie
traffic is solved

Next they’ll force everyone to be in their own car, no carpooling!
I am banning calories so that people can have more room in their bellies for water in arid regions
Couldn’t help but laugh tbh
What else one can do from the opposite side of the world?
When was this article written?
Ok here’s the article. I don’t want Hexbear to get mad at something that isn’t even happening anymore, but unfortunately this is still happening.
