Yiddish is funny as fuck, I’ve got a member of my family who married in that’s Jewish and I picked up so many sayings from them that I didn’t even realize was Yiddish until I was an adult

      • i apparently know more than is expected. i grew up in an urban metro area kind of stereotypical for having a retiring population. like the nearest, reasonable workout place was a JCC. you learn things. they were just words to me and they totally work.

i moved to some very midwest rural area as an adult and at one point it came up with a visiting colleague of a friend suddenly lasering in on me and saying, “how do you know that word?” i wish i could remember which it was, because it was pretty basic, like bupkis or schlep. not even anything remarkable like schlimazel.

when i said where i was from, but admitted I wasn’t in the tribe i got this look from them like i had made an account on j-date under false pretenses lol

Some Jews think they’re way more stealthy about being Jewish than they are.

There’s a girl who was shocked that I clocked her as jewish when she had a fucking hashem earring.

Like not to sound like an antisemitic conspiracy theorist, but jewish culture isn’t obscure.
