  • if you sent the modern Democratic Party back to the 1860s and subbed out the 1860s Republican Party, the resultant party system would ardently uphold the sanctity of the institution of chattel slavery. not even in a 13th Amendment exception way. it would just remain unapologetically legal.

  • Hmm, yeah fair. I can also see it working for say, franchise comics, it gets messy when work count goes into high-double/triple digits.

I think my pet peeve is specifically when people take like, Metal Gear, JoJo's, or as I first experienced this ick when I was 15, Monogatari, and twist it into a bespoke maze to follow chronology or some other thing, and then it catches on and people start recommending it to new people. It just gives me the ick.

  • the only other time it's debatable for me is release order but with 'problematic' (i.e. hard to experience/gatekeeper/turn-off) or 'unnecessary' (spinoff/non-canon/retread/etc.) skipped, but that shifts it to a debate on that criteria, which is separate from the order itself.

let's struggle: 'recommended work orders' for newcomers to a continuity are nonsensical.

  • xi jinping, xi jinping, please, if you can hear me, wrest this earth from the grip of the oil barons

  • my instinct is to say this is a result of the revanchist undercurrent that formed the 'Populist Right' around the election of Obama/2008 deleting the economy and its consequences, materializing in the Tea Party, GamerGate, and then Trump. Everything has to be a result of some Original Sin of The Left. No matter what, there is a point where you were "normal" but you "had to become like this" because "the left went too far."

I think unchecked ressentiment really hollows you out. You become a soldier in a holy war and everything you do is framed around it. The continued existence/happiness of that which slighted you is a constant weight on your back. Dragging others "down to you" is the only thing that gives you even a facsimile of happiness (in schadenfreude).

  • making up a protest that doesn’t exist in my head and getting mad at the protestors for not joining it (not joining either of those protests)

  • hear a lot of talk about marching in with guns from people without guns who also refuse to march (join a protest that exists)

  • personally at the point where I will deprioritize the insight of anyone that I know is not making an effort to be part of the real movement. The jackals are here. Lock in.
