For doxxing purposes I’ll keep the deets narrow. My boyfriend of 10 years recently got a lot of money just shy of 10k CAD and this is the most money we’ve had at any single time in our adult lives. We were both extremely excited, none of us have ever come across this much money at any point in our lives and the most weve ever saved up was around two thousand or so. But the excitement slowly faded after he suggested he wanted to spend the money to visit China for a day or two and then head off to one of those DPRK tours. When he told me this, I shook my head and said “you need to grow up” which he obviously was taken aback by. We haven’t really seen eye to eye politically, I mean I agree with his ideas and I’m on board with a lot that he believes in which is why I think he was so taken aback.
I want to go see my dad (a plane journey away) even though we saw him last just shy of two years ago. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness five years ago but his doctors said he has a decade left so there’s still time for him, admittedly.
My boyfriend is already ready for the trip and is saying he is going to do it because “as a fellow comrade its a once in a lifetime opportunity and with how much fuel costs I don’t think I will ever make this trip in my life but we can always drive 13 hours or so to see your dad. I cannot drive to China.” I think he thinks I will come around on this which is why he’s buying two tickets and if not he’ll invite his friend but he really wants me to come with him.
I don’t want him to leave me for some Chinese dude because I am deeply in love with him and he is like my world and ill do anything for him. He is becoming distant ever since I brought up seeing my dad and even said he wishes the money never existed.
What do hexbears? Thanks and love ya

Yeah I support Juche
NTA. I would question if he’s trolling you with this and then dump him like hot trash if he insists on going through with it.
If you missed the thread op is riffing on. Check the modlog
For the lazy https://hexbear.net/post/9591174
This is so clearly tailored to bait chapo dot chat users, lmao
You don’t even know the relationship dynamics I’m a very good partner

Power dynamics
Lmao, ok this thread is significantly less bewildering now
Wtf
Oh I saw, ty though
I just don’t want him to go to China and dump me because he found some hot Chinese Marxist who is ready to spend the rest of his $10k CAD on the Marxist-Leninist-Maoist tourism trip of a lifetime. You know you can travel FROM Shanghai to Moscow by train?? I don’t want him to do that without me
uncritical support for the DPRK in its heroic struggle to liberate this guy from his selfish boyfriend
Op has he and comrade listed as pronouns, not she
Oh, I assumed that this was written from the perspective of the girlfriend from the original post.
I think you may be right. I wrote this comment before I saw the original post this is riffing off
Most people got a dad some even multiple but there is only one democratic people’s republic of korea. Hardly a choice.
funny, your boyfriend sounds kinda like this guy i know who claimed he escaped a concentration camp in xinjiang
i personally think you should convince him to use the money to buy crack
everybody is always “buy experiences, not things” until you actually have a specific experience in mind that they don’t jive with.
If you’re thrifty about it, a trip to the dprk and back can be had for under $2k. I would sit down with the boyfriend and list out everything they can do with the money and plan out every dollar before spending a single one. There is no reason why you shouldn’t both get to do something selfish and still keep about half of it for savings/future emergencies or whatever.
I’m always saying “buy things, experiences are ephemeral. Sega Saturn is less ephemeral.”
Tell your boyfriend he needs a Sega Saturn with a Satiator ROM cart.
into money, problem solvedWell isn’t this rich. No joke, your boyfriend was just on here this morning and deleted his post after a while, presumably when he realized you were going to see it.
Maybe help him find better uses for the money. I mean, if he’s going to spend it on a trip it seems like he’s not too hard up and doesn’t really need it for survival. So maybe he could donate some of it to good causes like mutual aid, that would make a real difference in the world.
This is pretty mean spirited.
How so? Banned op was an emotionally manipulative troll preying on our assumptions of sincerity. If any of that post was true they suck for a load of other reasons.
Pretty sure it was someone trying to get one of us to support them and then post pics of it to reddit or something. One of those " look at these tankies and how bad they are" drama slop things. I think that’s why every other comment was “I’m an alt account, I’m one of you, you all really like me”
I think that’s far from clear. This comment sums it up:
It fucking baffles me how some people are able to maintain relationships for years like this… There’s a good chance OP is lying, but I see genuine examples all the time.
If it was trolling, then this post is just giving the troll more attention.
As the person who made that comment, I would like to point out that I was trying to talk about the general situation, and especially toward the end of the thread OOP made several comments that just don’t seem plausible to me as sincere statements.
If it was just the description of the situation, there are situations that bad that happen all the time, but I don’t believe OOP was sincere for other reasons. The “He’s her dad, not mine” one is a good example. It’s not categorically impossible, but with all the “I’d do anything for her,” “she’s my whole world” stuff, maybe OOP really does have such calloused feelings, but then OOP wouldn’t present it this way due to obvious inconsistency.
I think there’s a good chance these were real answers that no one wanted to hear. As you said, it’s baffling, but you see it in real life all the time.
People don’t always make the best decisions when they get handed a big wad of cash. Money frequently causes problems in relationships. People have very romantic views of relationships that can fall apart when there’s a disagreement over money.
i promise you there is a 0% chance the op of the other thread was in any way sincere
He did what with the money?
Your boyfriend’s understanding of KimIlSungism-KimJongIlism-KimJongUnism has surpassed what most people will ever learn. Go to the DPRK, while you still can.
