These were common in the 80’s, perhaps nearly 90’s. I remember the ads for them on TV and tried them only a couple of times. They were advertised more fancy than they actually were.
In Germany and France at least, they are still available. They taste better now than a few years back because now it tastes more like orange again.

To prevent people from stealing them. I’m pretty sure most places just have integrated LED fixtures nowadays.
looks like several decades ago stealing the bulbs was a thing, so they were designed so if you stole them would be useless at home
