I played a fair amount of SupCom Forged Alliance with a community patch/mod called FaF. It’s amazing the work that team put forth to make the game run well, but this must’ve been the problem they couldn’t really fix entirely. Played amazingly when I played solo against AI, but once I played with friends online, the in-game speed would start to slow to a crawl by the mid to late game, seemingly driven by unit counts/activity. Game was tons of fun to play, but it was hard to play with my group when the endgame was basically playing in slow motion.

0·7 months agoI"m a few steps in. I have the hardware. I know what hypervisor I want to use, and I know some of the things I want it to run with plenty of fun sounding projects to get it to host things. Its nearly put together (just an extra cache disk to hook up with cables already ran for it so it’ll take 10 minutes to do). But it’s sat on my desk since March of this year. Unconfigured. Just there.

I thank you for your service. Memes get me through to the next day sometimes.
Another one is how most 2g and 3g services (some SMS and voice connections) have known vulnerabilities. Unfortunately not just software security vulnerabilities, but also bad actors that can lease access within that system. That combination can allow for attacks within the underlying systems that make the target completely unaware for periods of time that their messages and voice calls are being intercepted, including 2 factor authentication content over SMS.
Veritasium has a cool video about it. https://youtu.be/wVyu7NB7W6Y
If possible, it is best to not rely on SMS authentication for privacy.

Games@lemmy.world•Is there a point in the Dark Souls games where you're too high level to be expected to be summoned by anyone?English
6·1 year agoIf I recall correctly it sorta changes over the course of the games. I think DS1 was primarily focused on character level, or souls spent on levels, while DS2 had a separate tracking system based on how many souls you have collected in total. Can’t speak too much on DS3 though.
For DS1 and DS2 at least, you definitely can climb those ranks to the point it’s difficult to find someone else that’s online and in your bracket, yeah.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Sid Meier's Civilization VII is Steam Deck Verified with the Linux version ahead of release on February 11English
37·1 year agoReally cool to see “mainline” titles getting this prior to release. Had a friend get pulled into Marvel Rivals who mainlines Linux at home, and he had actually 0 issues getting it running at the time. Literally just download and play. Civ also seems like the perfect game to play on a Deck, so this is a no brainer, but cool to see this stuff is getting more popular to support out-the-box.
