Years ago, I snuck Bleed by Meshuggah into my party playlist, and no one seemed to mind. Asked my gf about it and she said she wasn’t really listening lol. Don’t think I’ll be able to top that one

Not quite what you’re asking but…

Before my wedding, I discovered vitamin string quartet. They do a lot of instrumental covers of various famous songs. It was wonderful watching people do a double take as they suddenly recognised a song in the background. The star wars and star trek covers got the most reactions from the guys. Mr Bright side got a lot of double takes from the ladies.

Oh and we walked back down the aisle to “Love will tear us apart”.

People don’t notice tons of stuff. I had a particularly religious sister who would sing the abba songs “Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?” lyric while dancing and had no idea what she was saying.

Not sure if this counts, but I used to DJ at local bars and events. One evening, some guys had a bit too much and got into a brawl, so I put on Carl Douglas’s “Kung Fu Fighting”. People weren’t as amused as I thought they’d be.

In my defense, I was very, very drunk. People would bring me shots of Wild Turkey to play their song, and I took a lot of requests that night (note: I took requests for free but they brought me shots anyway).

My thought process was basically “refuge in audacity” and that a soundtrack might snap them out of whatever drunken rage they were in. Psychology wasn’t my major if that puts things into perspective.

Ghost’s “He Is” at a work christmas decorating contest. We had a computer controlled light show for our entry and snuck that in.

Not me, but at a former job’s party there was a mechanical bull (we were all pretty young), so the office manager put on a random feed of songs about cowboys. Turns out there’s a deathcore band Job for a Cowboy, whose song played in full. One coworker remarked about “who listens to this” — well, I know who does. I’ve been to a Napalm Death concert a couple months prior. And I’m only familiar with Job for a Cowboy’s name because I went to gawk at what was playing in the playlist.

Not quite the same, but at places that have the app controlled juke boxes I’ll often throw Cotton Eye Joe in the mix.

It’s usually a pretty big hit with the staff.

Heard crank that by Soulja Boy today at a town funded kid’s event today. Only very lightly edited. You could clearly hear “Superman that Ho!”

I don’t think most parents batted an eye. Whoever the DJ was clearly got away with it.

Our friend had to come and tell my housemate and me that we’re not allowed to play eliot smith even if it is our party.

Another friend entered an open mike dj contest at the university tav. Played foetus, anal cunt, etc. 3/4s of the crowd had left before they cut him off as his third song started. Many complaints. The manager was a gruff older publican and came up to him after. My friend was a bit guilty - he had chased off the guy’s business. The manager offered him a weekly slot and said he enjoyed the music.

Havok’s cover of Slayer’s Postmortem/Raining Blood. A couple hours ago. At a Wake afterparty.
