I’m not pointing at the post this links to, or the reply I’ve linked to, but the surrounding context, including replies from the moderators telling them they’re not welcome.

But seriously, I haven’t seen this problem (since Wolfballs died), and it’s probably because I rarely look at All instances or scroll to the bottom of huge threads. Or maybe .ml has blocked where these bigots hang out? I really don’t know, just guessing here.-

Lemmy really is dudebro land, and needs to fix that if it wants to grow further (which I would like as a Lemmy enjoyer).

At the risk of being gender normative, a pink girly instance for women would be a kinda nice refuge and nothing that specifically aims to cater to women exists on lemmy at the moment.

To address the fact that every other space on lemmy is annoyingly male-dominated you would need to make a space that is women-only so that they can’t fuck it up and turn away all the women.

Hexbear probably has the highest number of women as a percentage of its total userbase compared to all other lemmy instances.

Coincidentally enough, since you mentioned it, a chunk of that thread was about the existence of a women’s-only comm on lemmy, I didn’t know it existed before either, and I am still not sure where exactly it is, but as could be predicted as surely as the setting sun there were numerous men complaining and/or raging about how they were politely asked not to comment there. To the credit of some, there were a few comments from men saying they accidentally commented there once, were asked not to, and happily obliged.

Edit. Seems to start here if you’re interested:

Even includes the same comic PorkrollPosadist posted here.

There is no way to make a “woman only” space that doesn’t become terf in some way. They always turn transphobic.

(Edit: in case it needs to be clarified you can’t do “male only” for the same reasons)

I know from my first hand experience as a genderfluid person. All horror stories tend to be my own.

The very action of seperate the gender into binary is reactionary. Don’t even get me started how it always turns into bioessentialism.

Non binary people and intersex people have been speaking about this a lot. But we are mostly ignored because people would rather believe what feels good them and what they THINK. Then our lived experiences.

They accept anyone who is a women, but do they accept anyone else?

Do they accept us who are not all the way women? Sometimes women? Or victems of patriarchy?

Do they accept eggs? Do they accept questioning people looking for answers and aacceptance?

The answer is always no. They view us either as evil men or women lite. They cannot fathom a world outside the gender binary and it always comes back to bite us in the ass.

It also always reduces feminism to radical “feminism”. Instead of fighting against the patriarchy to end it truly we always end up doing more white “feminism”. Where women are helpless and less capable then men. Women are perpetually victems and can never cause harm nor can they hold men accountable. Needless to say I find this premise tiring.

Feminism without intersectionality is not feminism at all.

I want to build allies of power, but its not going to be from those who stick to the idea of the gender binary. Women are more then helpless little baby makers. And I’m tired that this has become a radical take again.

You can have your women only spaces, but just like seeing the American Flag. Some of us will know that we will never be same in such spaces.

Women only spaces got my tooth knocked out. Women only spaces had me held down trying to force make up on me. Women only spaces had me hit and beat up multiple times. Women only spaces for some of us are places of sticks and stones against us.

Why not create a space where everyone can be welcomed? Why do we have to buy into transphobia and patriarchy by always having to seperate?

Because that is what this is. Patriarchy. If you want to create a safe space. Focus on kicking out assholes based on their actions. You will never have a inclusive space when you are excluding based on arbitrary factors.

I believe in a world where we stop making excuses for men (and anyone else for that matter) and make them own up for any pain they do. This will never happen with this idea that women are weak and helpless and must always be protected little victems.

Once again this also goes into white feminism. See the example of all the times white women served both patriarchy and whitness by calling the cops on Black men. Before the camera the surveillance state was white women. This must also be recognized if you ever want to truly create a better world for everyone.

Once again feminism without intersectionality is not feminism.

What about how white women often don’t consider Black women real women because they “are inherently masculine”.

This is not a simple issue of “well we just have to disagree” these are basic understanding of how the world works through the lens of everyone who doesn’t fit neatly into your binary. By welcoming terf and patriarchy wrapped up in more pleasant wrapping.

If you want to create a better world. A safer world. It means tackling the people and the conditions that make it dangerous.

I’m done with this conversation though. I understand that you have your safe space illusion and that’s all that matters.

Your idea that we HAVE to have seperate spaces is no different how we must have separate sports. And we know how that goes. It’s the same thing. And it always leads back to the same circle ideas based on feelings then what is real and what could be real.
