    Stop calling it “age verification” when mandated self-doxxing or privacy destruction is much more descriptive.

      We should stop calling these systems “age verification” because they don’t actually verify anything users just self-report their age with no proof.

      It’s really “age indication,” not verification.

      These laws create a false sense of security while doing nothing to protect kids, and they risk harming open-source developers, small websites, and user privacy. Real verification would require ID or trusted third parties, but that’s not what’s being implemented, and it never will be at scale because of the privacy implications. Instead, we’re selling illusionary safety through meaningless clicks.
