@waitaminute@midwest.socialToday we rode the bus to a shopping centre, had morning tea there, then rode the train home. The boys absolutely loved it.
You can plan all these elaborate trips and events, but my boys love trains and busses, so it’s great to know we can make them happier than anything by walking out the front door and spending $4 on a ride.
New Fear Unlocked: Thermonuclear Annihilation!
Great way to kick off the summer, as if it’s not hot enough, starring down a full straight week of 90+ temperature. C’est la vie!
Went to a kids museum on Thursday, and I think I picked up a small bug from there because the place was slammed.
I don’t know what in doing in my sleep but my shoulders are totally jacked up. My upper back, across my solder blades, screams every morning. I need to find time to exercise again, but god it feels impossible.
The youngest has started doing this thing where he holds food in his mouth for a long time instead of swallowing it. It’s very annoying. He doesn’t do it all the time, but when he does he just won’t swallow. I’ve had to fish food out of his mouth multiple times this week.
Psh, I have had that fear for months.
We always get sick from the children’s museums!! It’s the best time ever and then we pay for all the fun we had. Lol
So sleep has been an issue over here, but for three days straight my kid has slept through the night. Tonight he looked at me and said bedtime and I went in his room and put him to sleep. This is huge for me. My kid sleeping has been a big fight between me and my husband and I am doing it my way and it is working, knock on wood.
My husband leaves for 2 months this weekend and for the first time I am not worried about how hard being around a kid alone will be.
:)
When sleeping clicks for your kids, it’s a great feeling. Here’s hoping your kid gets into a really good groove over the next couple months.
We got back from vacation! How do you all deal with screentime?
We limit it to only when me and my wife need it. For example, when we need to get some chores done or when my wife needs to nap in the afternoon (I think she had Long Covid issues). Or when I need to leave for work but the kids are up and my wife is still sleeping (again, the Long Covid maybe). That sounds restrictive but it ends up being what feels like a lot to me.
I’ve settled into a place of caring more about what the kids are watching versus how much time. PBS Kids or other “quality” shows, I feel like it actually helps them learn. But I am also incredibly fortunate that my kids only care about TV and couldn’t be less interested in phones or tablets.
Try to limit it as much as possible. But I’ve worked out a situation where I can get them to agree to a timer. So I set a timer for whatever we agree upon on my phone and when the timer goes off TV is all done
I’m proud of my boys, I’ve been putting the new Walking With Dinosaurs on for them and they haven’t been getting bored during the parts with the paleontologists. I was worried I’d have to fast forward to just the dinosaur parts.
How do ya’ll deal with discipline?
We take away privileges. They’ve never responded well to timeouts. Honestly I’ve been pretty bad about this, I will warn them they are about to lose a privilege but I end up cutting too much slack and I’m not as consistent as I should be.
My girlfriend is big on not doing full timeouts but time away from the thing they were doing with a parent. So instead of being alone they sit with us and we talk to them about what they did wrong. We then let them go back to what they were doing when they’ve calmed down and we’ve talked through it a bit.
It’s probably effective since we have two kids. So if you take one away the other is playing and it’s more apparent to the kid being disciplined they’re missing out.
It really depends on the age but I try to do consequences that make sense for whatever they did. Like if my kid spills water on purpose he just doesn’t get as much water or gets it taken away.
