Vibe coding is really stickin’ it to the man!

I’m not going to have any empathy for AI grifters when this is over.

And the problem with the AI bro vibecoders doing this isn’t that they make awful work, but they crowd the space with their bullshit and drown out all the actual authentic projects, so they don’t get the attention and support they need and end up fizzling out.

I’ve used the analogy of arts and crafts fairs in the past, they usually don’t allow pyramid scheme stuff like Amway there, because any that do quickly find themselves completely overrun with MLM huns all hawking identical low quality trash that no one wants, and they don’t abide by the rules of the space, like the anti-semite, they have the right to play and don’t actually take it seriously, so those around them get chased out and no one goes to the crafts fair anymore because it is just full of empty garbage. The same happens with any space that lets AI bros in, they flood it with low effort garbage, have no respect for the community or the rules of the space, and chase everyone else out, leaving a space that is just empty and soulless and no longer offers anything of value.

Like on the one hand, SOME projects done with AI have come out looking good. But on the other, you got fuckers who want to vibecode EVERYTHING and push out broken slop like the Sonic The Fighters decomp.

I’ve had the same thought as OOP when looking at the ridiculous number of retro recompilations lately, suddenly there’s a glut of them, and there’s no way all the AI ones are worthwhile.

  • idk how to feel about this. like yea weeks of hard work can be finished with a few prompts.some may call it plagiarising but what if an original idea comes to fruition?

i have a hobby project and don’t try to hurt anyone with it: i got an old 1999 nokia and got it online with signal messenger and discord on the original firmware. claude code helped immensely and even got a breakthrough in this nieche project. i shared the findings with other enthusiasts and they were grateful and it’s now a base for further hobby projects in our community. nothing was plagiarized because nothing like this existed before.

is it wrong i used ai for an evening instead of wasting another 3 months on undocumented hard & software?

i can see the potential in what ai can help achieving with a sega32x, sure you accomplish goals faster. but in the end: why would i use a screwdriver if a powerdrill is at hand?
