I wish I could boycott this but I already boycott Epic. Dangit.
This is going to be such a buggy mess for them
Even before the Slop Mandate, I’m not sure I could be less enthused about that product.
Let’s cross over the trillion-dollar franchises! That’s not the premise for a classic game you’ll proudly share with your children one day. It’s the premise for a 16-year-old fanboy’s first outing on AO3. It’s the premise for something that shuts down in 9 months due to declining interest after two half-hearted content updates and nine gacha banners.
Hot take: if your game mechanics and story wouldn’t work as an unbranded, franchise-free version, no amount of smearing Darth Vader and the Incredible Hulk on the carcass will make it better. (It will, of course, sell better, because Star Wars and Marvel Boys seem to inexplicably have access to credit cards.)
Plus, they already did that shit with Fortnite so it won’t even be novel
I was thinking more Marvel Rivals. Like why not just add Star Wars characters there? You know most people playing that only care about the thirst traps anyways
NetEase totally could do that, and then Epic’s desperate bid to cling to relevancy would be even more pathetic
new Disney shooter with Marvel and Star Wars characters
So it’s gonna be a shitty new hero shooter about a decade past relevance that will be even shittier now. Fantastic stuff.
Yeah, I was gonna say, just that description sounds like a flop, even if it weren’t slop…
Marvel Rivals is doing pretty good I gather. I went back to Overwatch but that game is getting regular updates. So this one seems like some overlap if anything.
Tim Sweeney’s brain should be studied. It’s impressive to be consistently wrong about everything and still think you should be in charge.
He’s the definition of failing upwards
Wish I could do that. My brain also deserves the same study, because I constantly make (made) the worst possible investment decisions. Main difference is, I never failed upwards. if I did, I would be the owner of an incredibly successful investment firm.
You and me both. :D
It’s genuinely impressive, a normal idiot would have gotten at least one w by sheer luck by now.
It’s not difficult to understand. Decades of getting things right makes you think you’re always right about the future.
Let’s not forget he’s not just some appointed CEO. He’s the founder, he’s been running it since 1991. Before the Fortnite billions and the EGS exclusive issues, Epic was beloved because they made a solid engine you could use for free until you earn enough to pay royalties and they gave out grants to game devs (yes, grants, not investments). Literally the only difference between him and GabeN is that he let the success go to his head, whereas GabeN realized he has a golden goose and killing it would be idiotic.
Good luck, Epic… if the game is a buggy, broken mess, that’s on you.
What do you mean IF
I know it will be a buggy mess by lieu of being rushed, but I am giving the benefit of the doubt here, if they can pull it off, cool, if not, meh. Not like I’m interested in the game to begin with.
Epic continues the proud tradition of shooting itself in the foot chasing trends.

Sun Tzu said that.
“Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. - Napoleon Bonaparte”
- Sun Tzu
Mr Bean, actually.
Pretty sure he didn’t speak English, unlike Napoleon.
Wait
And i bet he know a little more than you do pal. Unless it’s a farm
for(int i=0; i<10; i++)Epic: “You can’t do that”
“Ok. Hey AI, write
for(int i=0; i<10; i++)”That’s one of the hardest things to decide whether i<10, i=10 or whether i even starts at 0. That means I have to think for like a second.
Granted, a LLM gets it just as wrong as I do, but then it’s not my bug anymore, it was the LLMs fault ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
They should have just closed up shop rather than a death spiral to the bottom.

These games are cursed I swear, we’ll never get a good version
Could be funny at least.
