I’d watch an anthology series of Reacher just going around from town to town solving random problems with gratuitous violence. I don’t need a complicated conspiracy. Just instant cathartic justice.

The part that hooked me originally on this series was in the first episode when Reacher started demonstrating his analytical, observational, and deductive skills. I sure wish there were more scenes like that thought the rest of the seasons.

I don’t normally say stupid shit like I’m about to say, and please fans of reacher, don’t take it too seriously as I don’t like pissing on picnics.

    Buuuut

When something like this gets six seasons when other, much better, shows get cancelled, o have no clue what the fuck is wrong with viewers and the industry.

Like, yeah, the actor is good enough in the role. But holy fuck is Reacher just a brick stupid asshole. The entire premise of the books and show are just masturbatory knuckle dragging moronics writ large.

    Fuck me running

To me, there are mainly 2 types of show. The complex storyline shows like Game of Thrones, where you must fully pay attention while watching. The other category are mindless shows, where’s it’s easy to tune in and out of, and still easily grasp the storyline.

Reacher is clearly in the mindless category and, to me, one of the better shows in that category.

It’s not at all surprising that on average, people would rather watch a show that requires little to no thinking.

My mom watches Reacher. I’m pretty sure she watches it for Alan Ritchson though, not the actual story.

Congratulations, you have discovered what appealing to the masses means.

This is an airport book series that has a good adaptation. It’s fun to watch. It’s not high brow art. It’s a show where big competent man hurts bad people in the name of justice. It’s a very boomer coded show except for the fact that Reacher is especially virtuous. Media like this has always thrived, and has for hundreds to thousands of years.

100%. after hearing good things for a few years i watched 3 episodes last night and am not impressed. I was expecting more detective competence porn, but you’re exactly right, he’s just a smug brute. There are a few sherlock-style inductive reasoning chains, but i feel like that’s the laziest and least interesting way to progress a mystery/thriller.

And they (or the book author) try way too hard to make his dialog humorous. I guess i’m not surprised people watch the show but how could this make for a good book?

Anyway, if anyone wants a similar vibe done better in every single way check out Rebel Ridge.

Where did you get the idea that this show and the books it’s was based on was some kind of literary detective fiction? It’s a popular pulp series. They’re airport books.

It’s Slow Horses that’s the more high brow mystery thriller show.

    This latest season was meh.

Watching him punch a 130 lb antagonist in the face and she is able to continue fighting after the briefest of pauses. 🙄

On that note, the plot armor the two antagonists had was terrible.

I really felt this season struggled with several of its elements.

The different agencies fighting, the CIA acting literally like keystone cops… it was lampoonish at times.

Agreed. Worst season so far. This is probably going to be one of those shows they are stretching for too long.
