We had such a crazy drought this year, there is no more snow where i live, which used to have a ski lift when i was little, the local glacier is almost gone, and i remember it being massive some 30 years ago. The ocean heated up two degrees, which is so goddamn much, and people fail to realise how much energy it takes to heat up water, eapecially that much.
Then when it raind a bit after two month someone said: phew, we did it.
My dad continues to deny climate change.
He also likes to reminisce about the snow he had every year as a kid, and that when he was a teen, he and his brothers would drive their truck out on the frozen lake
The lake hasn’t frozen solid since I was a child, and they were always telling people not to try the ice for skating since it was so thin people kept dying by falling in.
The snow hasn’t stuck for more than a day since I was a teen, other than massive week-long snow/ice storms from changing weather.
It’s going to be in the 90s later this week when it should be cool enough to break out hoodies.
Of course, pointing any of this out when he brings up climate change results in complete dismissal.

The situation you’re describing with drastically different winters without snow is why I moved out of the Midwest. I grew up in Wisconsin with glorious snowy winters. Now it mostly rains in the winter. The actual climate classification of Wisconsin has changed, it’s a different number now. The only way to continue to deny climate change is to be delusional. My condolences about your Dad, that must be frustrating as hell.
For most people “normal” is just whatever they’ve seen on a regular basis for the past couple of months. It has no basis in ideas of what should be, or even what has been in the past. If you destroy the world slowly enough they’ll notice, but won’t be motivated enough to do anything about it.
Humans are surprisingly good at enduring changes, and those in power are well versed in exploiting that fact. We could turn the earth into a literal hellscape and most people would just say “hot one today, eh?”
It only takes 30 years, sometimes less, for something to become “the way it’s always been” in peoples’ minds.
I’ve been saying this for decades, so it’s sort of a relief that people have finally begun to understand what I was saying all that time.
