I remember watching World War Z (2013) whilst aboard on a flight, the latter half of this scene was removed just because it involves Brad Pitt’s character detonating a grenade inside a plane because of zombies. I mean why is it that movies before being shown on planes have to cut out specific scenes despite it being a work of fiction?

If someone has flying anxiety and saw this scene, they might have a panic attack. Because of the environment and how a flight might need to be rerouted in case of an emergency, it makes sense to remove scenes that can cause a stress spike. Specifically the ones involving planes crashing and exploding. Just a guess though, I’ve never noticed any scenes being cut before.

Airlines need to suit all media to laws (of to-and-from countries) and comfort/appropriateness to both viewer and nearby passengers (who will inadvertently watch other screens).

A grenade going off in a plane could well distress viewer and/or other watchers with flying anxiety. That said, I have seen plane scenes on a Chinese airline which ought to have been avoided, so it seems to depend on the airline.

I watched an in flight movie, I forget what one, but it had a SciFi element like Dune maybe. One scene is fully nude female walking around. The person behind me could obviusly see the screen and called the stewardess over to complain. Stewardess glanced and moved on like she had bigger issues than having a discussion about in flight movies.

WTF is wrong with people, can’t they just fucking mind their own business, look elsewhere for a 30 second scene in an Hollywood movie. Everything available on the IFE is fair game.

Airports and airlines bring out the absolute worst in people. Just look at how some people act as soon as they leave the plane, or even as soon as it lands.

Many years ago I was watching a saucy French movie on a KLM flight. The 8 year old sitting next to me got sex education to last a lifetime, these actors were going at it like rabbits.

You got some good answers already, but I feel like what’s missing is “so they can say they did something.” That is, if they do nothing, people complain (like the comment about the Karen who saw nudity on their neighbor’s screen), they have some recourse. “We edit what we can but at the end of the day, you can’t call the police because you looked in your neighbor’s window and saw them watching a porno or a violent movie, it’s no different on the plane, watch your own screen and don’t worry about what others choose to watch.”

To clarify what someone said about countries, if you’re flying to/from the Middle East or Russia, I don’t think you can show anything gay because that’s illegal in those areas. It’s a fight they don’t want.

The beginning of Garden State starts with a plane crash (dream). I put this on as an inflight movie only to remember that just as I hit play and felt really stressed. However, it had been edited to start with the character waking up. So that.
