The US is wealthy precisely due to imperialism! This isn’t an aberration! This kind of war (or threat of it) is where the money comes from, along with financial means like sanctions and predatory lending policy. Liberals have to be called out for imagining this is a special circumstance and not the status quo that included Biden and Obama.
Well sure, but the sentiment in the post is that it’s not America First to pay reparations as part of making peace. The alternative to paying for peace now would be to continue the war. I think it’s a very good thing for the US to pay reparations to Iran for decades of crimes committed against the country, although I agree that the US also shouldn’t have attacked Iran.
I think it’s gauche to act like the reparations are costing Americans as if there would be social benefits to normal people here if we weren’t paying them.
Calling it a waste misses the point like calling a mass shooting a waste of bullets. Yeah it’s a bad use for bullets, but that’s because it’s a heinous act of terroristic mass violence, not because it wasn’t profitable.
If someone has a theory that can better explain the facts of the world than what they see posted around, it’s nice to share it. Every particular failure of liberalism to explain reality leaves a gap that can be filled with a better explanation. In this case, the theory partially put forth seeks to put Trump and the current failures of his administration as an aberration and a departure from a normative, desirable state of American politics where things like this do not happen. Such a state is a myth. There is no world where the US federal government would put $300B in funds toward anything we would remotely call good.
The thing that is “somewhat different” is that time has moved forward and circumstances have changed. The US empire is declining and the Global South is on the rise. Time is running out before it becomes impossible for the US to maintain its position in West Asia, if it was even possible at the beginning of 2026.
I believe that Biden would have escalated with Iran, possibly militarily. It was reported, shortly before Trump’s transition, that Biden was considering options to strike Iran if they develop a nuclear weapon. I think that phrasing leaves a lot unsaid, because realistically what it means is that Biden considered striking Iran on the same pretense that Trump used, a pretense that we know is false.
Biden tried to force Trump into certain geopolitical stances on Ukraine, Iran, Russia, China, and probably others (Venezuela?) by escalating where necessary, eliminating any pivot.
All this is beside the point anyway. It does not matter if Trump is a special, unique little man who truly changed the direction of thought (lol) inside the state. The “waste” of billions of dollars is not important to anyone who cares about the human beings who felt the lethal side of that expenditure. The “waste” is by design, for the purpose of graft to the MIC. If this $300B was a waste, then so is every dollar we already spend normally, because its purpose is for graft.
israel would’ve started this 20 years ago if they had defeated hezbollah back then
the specifics would play out different, in a way it’s better that it’s trump because he’s an incompetent steward of the empire but that’s cold comfort to any iranian who lost anything in this version of reality.
Money isn’t a thing. Is Iran going to buy us goods and services using these funds? If so, Iran gains real stuff, US loses real stuff. The idiotic Americans would see it as a win because it reduces trade deficits even though Real flow is in favor of Iran.
Also note Iran lost access to foreign resources due to sanctions imposed by the US. This is only reversing part of it.
The US has been poised for a major attack on Iran since 2003. In that time we have had 3 Democratic administrations and 2 Democratic Congressional sessions. They did not turn away from military expansion in the slightest.
Republicans do the big visible war crimes, and Democrats enable and justify it.
Or simply if the war didn’t happen we wouldn’t waste all this money

I think it’s ok to point out this was all a big waste, I know some Democrats suck but this isn’t the meme to write a screed

Many presidents have not attacked Iran even though I’m sure there was pressure to, I would say that is somewhat different

More like the illusion that hizbollah was done for after killing Nassrallah made Israel overconfident in ending Iran

Ok but the war happened so it is useless to complains. Actions against Trump should happen and accept that Iran deserve compensations
