PC obsession? Seems like a strong word. I’d say they’re just throwing carrots. Not good carrots either, just the ones that were already destined for the compost bin.

I’ve been using a DS5 for PC gaming over an Xbox controller for a few months now, and it’s the fucking best! I’m genuinely not going back. The touch pad acts like a track pad for when you absolutely need mouse control (ui navigation mostly), and you can use gyro to fine aim ala the switch. It’s sick! I’m considering picking an edge up exclusively for PC gaming, I’m that sold. I just want someone to confirm the back pedals work. I do wish they had hall effect sticks though.

I use a DS Edge exclusively for PC gaming, and I have for a while now. Through Steam, the back pedals, touch-pad buttons, PS button, and microphone button are all customizable to be any button input you want. I have them on a per-game profile basis, where some games like Elden Ring I map them to be a second O-button so it’s less awkward to run, where others I have them bound to keyboard inputs or macros.

I bought one for that purpose. Realized it’s too much, the angles are so large I can’t hold it for long periods without hurting my wrists, and it’s really heavy, compounding the wrist pain issue. Also the triggers have way too much resistance.

Plus the battery life is really short.

I ended up buying an 8bitdo Ultimate. Much better.

Also the triggers have way too much resistance.

The Edge has 3 “distance” settings for R2 and L2. I moved mine to the shortest setting since I was getting trigger fatigue from Final Fantasy XIV.

The shape of the Edge is weird. That and the parallel sticks hurt my hands after an hour or so. I have big ass mitts as well so that may be the cause.

The 8bitdo ultimate is my favorite of all time though. I don’t think I’ll ever find a more perfect controller. Can use it for hours with 0 issues.

I do have a few issues with it:

            • the grippy texture underneath is a bit much. It holds on to grime really well and it’s a challenge to clean. I’m not sure we actually needed a grippy texture at all to begin with, but if we did, I wish ease of cleaning had been a bigger concern.
            • the buttons under the controller and L2/R2 buttons are a tad too easy to press by accident.
            • The L2/R2 buttons are not ergonomic enough. I can tell the intent is that I put my indexes on L1/R1 and middle fingers on L2/R2. But it’s uncomfortable to do that due to how much the L2/R2 buttons stick out. My hands just aren’t that big, and even if they were, I just don’t think it’s a very natural position to outstretch both fingers like that. It puts too much strain on the ring and little fingers. So instead I only use my indexes for both triggers. Thankfully games rarely need you to do both at once. I wish L2/R2 were lower instead of trying to be flush with L1/R1.
            • I don’t play car games, so the gradual triggers are nothing but a negative to me. They reduce my effectiveness when parrying in Elden Ring, for instance. I know most people do care about car games though so I don’t know what they could have done about that without worsening reviews…

Wish they were more obsessed with making a controller that doesn’t develop stick drift and had better batteries.

I’m curious about the stick drift thing.

I have 3 controllers, two of which I’ve had since maybe 6 months after the PS5 was released since that’s about how long it took me to get one.

Both controllers have a few hundred hours on them, neither have stick drift. The third one doesn’t have nearly the amount of hours on it since my kid spilled juice on it and I procrastinated for a few months to take it apart and clean it lol so I’m not considering that one.

Is it really that bad or did I just get lucky? These things are almost 4 years old and still work perfectly fine.

I got stick drift on my first one within 200 hours and within 150 hours of the second one. I’ve never had stick drift on any other controller in my life and I’ve owned every major platform except for the Wii U all the way back to the N64 and PSX. I was still using my launch PS4 controller until the PS4 Pro and that controller until 1 year into the PS5.

The last two generations of Playstation and Xbox controllers have all used the same Alps joystick modules.

Elite Series 2 is the only exception I know of, I haven’t taken apart the Dualsense Edge so that one could be different too.

Good fucking luck, Sony. I’ll help you by buying all your open world shit once it hits 20€ or less provided it’s on Steam with no kernel-level drm and no launchers/logins other than gaben’s. I know, it’s a tall order, right?

It’s super scummy, what they’re doing with PC.

The plan is to launch games on PC then lock sequels to console to try and force more hardware sales.

Everything points towards them beginning to plan for simultaneous releases, going forward.

And so far, sequels have come to PC, eventually.

Maybe they hoped some would grab consoles during the wait, but I’m willing to bet it wasn’t anywhere near an amount they would need for it to be worth it. PC players are VERY patient when it comes to waiting for a version that can turn up the graphics, resolution, and frame rate.

They’re trying to hedge their bets. Nintendo effectively dropped out of the home console market, Microsoft has transitioned away from the console, so Sony is dipping a toe in

Now the question will be: How long until emulation of these console-locked games is viable?
