None of it matters. Most of our allies are not at a level they will engage with the truth of the matter. If their faucet is blocked by a tree root, they’ll be further convinced, and if they always have water they won’t be unconvinced

So if they care about water, good messaging means that water becomes the stand in for the right to privacy. Nothing you say (or at least nothing I have tried to say) will make them understand the privacy implications. I haven’t convinced a single person that privacy is actually critical to democracy. And trust me, I’ve tried a lot of angles with many different people

We just have to accept they’re pointed in the right direction, and that trying to educate them can only hurt the cause. They won’t be ideologically won over, but on the flip side, it’s not really about water for them either

Even if we did reach them on the issue, that wouldn’t wake them up. They won’t care about the next issue, like the cameras, until they’re worried that agents are laughing over their genital pics or something, whatever they latch onto next

So just let water be the metaphor. They’ll cheer with us, they’ll march with us, and they won’t blink when you tell them AI water usage is eroding their rights

It was utter garbage for a while, like such bad writing and so obviously formulaic that I’d get pissed off about it. Especially the Dr strange one…I was pissed because i was excited for another dr strange one and it wasn’t even enjoyable. Part of it might be that my expectations dropped to the floor after that, but I’ve found that after they cancelled everything and course corrected they’ve gradually gotten better. If doomsday is good I’ll probably get invested again, I am excited to see the mutants get involved in the main plot

Mine has style. It’s not fancy or intricate, but it’s a nice mix of sharp and curving lines for the prominent characters that can be read if you already know what it says, and I can fire it off in about two seconds with a nice rasping sound

I learned cursive very briefly when I learned handwriting, but I’ve never really used it. I still can barely read it. I spent a little time in grade school coming up with it with some good suggestions from my older sister (since it didn’t have much style in real cursive), but it’s not like I put very much effort into it. I just decided one day if people were going to make me sign my name on things, I didn’t want it to look terrible. And for reference, my handwriting is shit, barely readable to the average person

Literally anyone can do it. It doesn’t have to be cursive, it doesn’t have to be readable, I once knew someone illiterate who just neatly printed out their name all caps. There’s no rules to it, it doesn’t even have to be cursive, it doesn’t even have to spell your name, it’s entirely a matter of style

All of these examples, including my first attempts at my own as an actual child, were better than Elon’s.

You could do it right now. Take half a day picking out a style, you could look at fonts for reference, fill just a couple pages to practice, and you’re done. Hell, you could hire someone on fiver to design it for you if you wanted. Either way, it’ll naturally become easy and faster as you use it

For most people, it really doesn’t matter that much, I wouldn’t comment if the average person didn’t have a good one. But if I were going to be a CEO or politician, where other people might actually see it? Where it’s going to end up on people’s paychecks? I’d go back to the drawing board and put a little more than an afternoon into it. It’s just a matter of dignity

$200 billion isn’t a slap on the wrist, it’s a real punishment. Facebook can’t just cut a check and continue on, they’re going to have to make hard choices if they are made to pay up. Florida alone could still drain the company dry on this case, but more importantly it sets a precedent

Since we don’t have a functioning system of corporate punishment, it’s all case law. I’m sure Facebook is going to fight it with everything they have, so it’s not nearly over… But if this goes through anyways? That could change things

We have mechanisms to do these things, but we don’t really have a system of corporate criminal punishment. It’s one of those problems of using an early version of democracy… Courts can fine and impose sanctions, they can prosecute individuals for their part, but as time went on instead of legislating a system of corporate punishment it’s just been left to case law

Which doesn’t work out well, because corporations have grown to the point they can dump more way money into legal defense than the courts can put into prosecution

So the answer to your question is basically that it doesn’t matter how much they violate the law, they’re to big and too powerful for the courts to handle them with the tools available
