I hate spy movies; I genuinely have never found the genre interesting, and with my luck a few years ago a friend dragged me to go see the James Bond movie ‘No time to die’ (WHICH BY THE WAY, IS ALMOST THREE HOURS LONG DON’T YA KNOW!); I haaaaated that movie; literally only ONE thing could’ve saved it for me:
There’s a character in the movie, a lady who becomes the new 007 (which stupidly annoyed chuds for some reason; it’s not like she was going to even permanently replace James Bond, it was a STORY reason why she was granted that designation), her name? Nomi.
If she had even ONCE introduced herself as ‘Nomi, you know me’, it would’ve saved the movie for me! 10/10, movie of the year, give it an Oscar!
It would’ve been akin to the ‘Bond, James Bond’ thing, but better!
The Man from UNCLE is a fun spy movie. The right amount of camp and it’s feel good to see the US and the USSR team up to take down some fashies. It’s a shame Armie Hammer is a cannibal cuz I would’ve like a sequel.
“The Man from UNCLE 2: Sex Pest & Cannibal Ride Again” would’ve been a banger title, too.
I also dislike the entire spy genre. That being said, Slow Horses — while not without its issues — is actually pretty alright. Maybe it’s because I have a crush on Gary Oldman, but I enjoyed in nonetheless.
During COVID lockdown, we watched the entire franchise… Fun, but I’ll never do it again. I’ve got my faves, but most of them are trash imo. Racism, misogyny, sex pestery, bad acting and screenplay adaptations, shitty editing work, the list goes on and on… Just like the goddamn runtime. I like long movies, but most Bond films are at a whole different level.
It’s just a movie. Don’t worry so much about something that doesn’t matter.
I liked her as 007, but I was a bit annoyed when she asked her designation to be transferred back to Bond.
film producer: HERE’S MY MASTER PLAN TO APPEASE THE WOKE MOB AND THE CHUDS!
The name’s Jingleheimer-Schmidt, John Jacob Jungleheimer-Schmidt.
My relationship with James Bond is difficult. My dad loved the movies so I have been watching them with him for as long as I can remember, but the racism, misogyny, and insufferable British arrogance have worn me down over the years. Even when you have a good movie like Goldfinger, it’s completely ruined by SA.
I too have been frustrated by low hanging fruit like that. I spent years singing the wrong lyrics to songs only to find out the author had said something else entirely, but my lyrics were better. I’m looking at a picture of Glen Anzalone right now.

i can’t deal with 3hr movies anymore. after 2.5hrs, my brain is like, “who even cares!”
a spy movie I liked:
- The Bourne Legacy (the one with Renner).
it’s Tony Gilroy, so the dialogue and pacing is excellent, and the whole backdrop of the natsec-corporate-pharma-research linkages felt tight and realistic: the tunnel vision of research scientists and workers in their boxes focusing on their tasks, and the sociopathy of leaders who see the whole scope, acting ruthlessly inhumane, but controlling the compartmentalization to protect their fiefdoms etc.
-
The Manchurian Candidate (the remake with Denzel) was pretty good.
-
Condor (a two season Tv Series) is completely jacked the fuck up and everybody should check it out. its a remake of a movie with Robert Redford. american setting, produced in ireland, didn’t get a lot of promotion here. when you watch it, you’ll see why lol.
-
The Constant Gardener is polite, cerebral and grim. UK focused.
-
Haywire works because Gina only has to be a mostly quiet ass kicker and Soderburgh can make the story nibbling around the edges with implications.
-
Munich, i liked. the ADL said it was antisemitic when it came out (lol), even though it is really apologia, at heart. it’s not a political revelation and fits in the “maybe our terrorism isn’t righteous because i have ptsd now and can’t be the man i wanted to be anymore” box, but Spielberg tells a story that i think was personal to his faith and cultural identity.
I thought for a moment I liked James Bond but I just liked playing nightfire with my friends lol.
But also Spy Kids is my shit (first 2)
