I do not understand how someone can claim to be a leftist, claim to read theory, claim to want to help the oppressed, and then turn to some of the oppressed proletariat and just go “nah, you’re actually not oppressed, you are the oppressor because you want me to make minor changes to how I treat you so you are more comfortable.”
Unfortunately there’s a type of communist who only really cares about class and imperialism and is otherwise a conservative. Ironically like none of the communist leaders they idealize actually operated like this.
All descriptions of anti-identity politics/ class reductionism, both from those for and against it, always sounds to me like “trickle-down economics with race, gender, orientation etc. instead of class”.
