If you have a PS5 and haven’t used it in a while, check the firmware version. Anything under 13.60 will probably be so jailbroken soon you could run linux on it.
A lot of consoles on store shelves are running this version
I got one a couple of weeks ago as soon as the relapse jailbreak dropped and I am so glad that I did.
Just this week alone there has been a hypervisor exploit found for consoles 13.60 and below and people have been booting every generation of PlayStation games from the disc, including PS1 with the use of a USB CD-ROM drive.
Things are moving so fast and it is great to see!
Is there a decent guide to get me started somewhere? I literally haven’t touched my PS5 in probably a year so I know it’s on an old firmware
Modded warfare on YouTube makes good guides
Seconded, I have been using his tutorials and they are clear, concise and easy to use!
You could currently go and buy a PS5 off the shelf at a store, bring it home, and have ps1/2/3/4/psp/5/xbox/xbox360/switch/basically anything similar to those running faster than someone who bought a game with it and put the disc in would
Is switch emulation actually good now?
It’s been good for a minute. I’ve been able to play most games on my android handheld with the eden emulator. I was surprised how good it was
Lmao, my dust-gathering PS5 about to become useful
The lack of games was a blessing in disguise. Many of us left it powered off so long that the firmware is out-of-date enough to get hacked.
Without MGS, Sony platform is nothing 😔
my stupid ass held off getting one for $400 new last year because i’m holding out for PS6 (or for the PC parts market to go back to normal)

At this point I don’t think PS6 or normal markets are happening.
You can still get them pretty cheap second hand. For how useful they’ll be anyway.
Plus when someone figures out how to run ai on it the prices will double
Somehow buying a PS5 second hand is actually more expensive than buying a new one on my local platform.
Lmao you’ll be stuck holding for a ps7 at this rate.

The reason I got one is because I can’t afford to upgrade my PC!
Here’s hoping the Chinese make some game changing revolutionary new format that leapfrogs the data center hoarding and makes gaming affordable again.
Because of the restrictions on litography machines, they were pretty much forced to optimize and research tech before western companies to be able to complete. Latest examples are Huawei’s Kirin chips “LogicFolding” (distributing logic from the same chip over multiple stacked layers) and CXMT preparing to launch 4F² memory two years before Samsung.
This means that if, inshallah, they manage to manufacture their own UV litography machines, they could already be at the lead.
This means little on the short term for gaming affordability though. That being said, CXMT had a gigantic boom and are expanding dramatically. They plan to overtake Micron and become the third biggest DRAM provider by 2030. Just last year marketshare charts were lumping them with “Others”
Anything under 13.60
If you’ve updated it since then, is there any hope of reverting back somehow?
Afraid not. Dont update any further if youre at 14.00 though
Is there a place that has the lowdown on the exploit methods available? Like https://kindlemodding.org/ but for the PS5?
Modded Warfare on YouTube.
You just set your DNS and open a browser
Holy shit that guy is still around? I watched his videos to jailbreak my PS4 too.
as someone still on a ps4:

i’ve heard that linux can also be installed on the ps4, but i’ve heard that it runs like a pile of shit? (sorry for slightly going off topic)
The PS4 being from 2014 kneecaps it a smidge. Modding one is still good fun, but it won’t work as a regular computer for any modern tasks.
Unfortunately my PS5 is updated and my mom uses it a lot for streaming since the TV in the living room is shitty and only have netflix and youtube. I’ll stop updating it when we can move out and wait for an exploit, it could become a sick Steam Machine for me in the future.
