I love Marathon 
I’d have bought it if it was a campaign and not an extraction shooter
Marathon 2: Durandal is a fun campaign. Marathon 1 and Infinity are more sadistic with the mazes and door/platform puzzles but I love them because I grew up with that shit
I tried it and just didn’t vibe with it at all unfortunately. I felt like the pacing was ALL ANXIETY ALL THE TIME. Even the menus of the game have anxious music in the background that doesn’t let me switch off the anxiety during downtime between runs.
I get that anxiety is kind of a feature of the tension in extraction shooters but at least in other games you have downtime.
Devil Daggers is a game that’s pure anxiety to me. I’ve been meaning to try the semi-sequel Hyper Demon, but I have a feeling that’s going to be similar in that aspect.

I think the people that turn off music in games are the minority. It’s part of the game, it creates the atmosphere, the ambience, the feeling.
That is one kind of experience. The tension and anticipation of waiting for a critical sound que on which the game hangs while your friends are going apeshit on discord is another no less valid one.
It is definitely Anxiety: The VideoGame, the only times I’m not anxious playing it is when I’m playing the solo Rook with the silenced pistol that has the upgraded free kit because I have nothing to lose (especially because Rook matchmaking times are instant for when I die)
The only relaxing parts of the game was the PVE mode at the beginning of Season 2 and probably the new PVE Roguelike mode coming next week
A friend of mine talked me into getting it. I played it for like 15 hours or so, just started to figure out wtf was going on, and then we went on vacation and I never touched it again. It’s a daunting game to play if you don’t continually play it.
There’s a PVE map coming out next week!
I’m so excited apparently it’s like a roguelike-ish mode set on Cryo Archive with its own progression system
The only reqson I didn’t buy it is because it doesn’t run on Linux
It sounds like Bungie put their hearts out in this game and I support it.
After hearing the 404 episode on this though…I don’t have enough time to commit to this 😭
Playing Marathon made me so much better at shooters after plateauing for years, I was able to go back and breeze through Halo 2 legendary, it really distills everything I love about shooter games
I’m busy doing a PhD and adding additional stress sounds like hell to me lol.
