To the airline staff: “I m-meant to miss the plane…”

To the drinking buddies he missed at the Prancing Pony: “I was… delayed.”

Having said that, I’ve missed a plane before, and they just put me on the next one. Most airlines have a “flat tire rule” where they’ll accommodate you if you barely miss the flight. I think it’s like a 1-2 hr window depending on the carrier.

      Is that most airlines? TIL.

Or did you mean “accommodate” aka have you buy a new ticket at full price?

So far I’ve only ever missed a flight once, by about 10-15 minutes, and the manager working that day absolutely did not want to help me out, kept saying I had to buy a brand new ticket at full price. I managed to get lucky when he walked away and the clerk working the counter quietly rebooked me on the next flight with a flight change fee (I think it was around $75 vs buying a full price ticket that was $300-$400). I kind of assumed all airlines are like that but now you’ve got me wondering.

I’ve missed a plane (American Airlibes I think it was) and they basically said no problem and put me right on the next one a couple hours later. It was between 2 major hub airports though.

Also pro tip if you came tickets on a Friday before a holiday weekend: They overbook the shit out of those flights and offer vouchers for free tickets if you give up your seat to a standby. They sort of bid it up and I got $1000, a seat on an empty flight the next day, hotel, and meal vouchers for dinner and breakfast the next day. A retired couple who lived near the airport used to do it for all the major holidays for free flights. They explained it to me as we cashed out together. Ended up flying to the total eclipse for free with my brother later.

Yeah, most airlines will take care of you. I missed one on Southwest due to long TSA lines (note, this was before Southwest started getting rid of all the pro consumer policies, so they might suck now) and my wife once missed an Alaska flight due to forgetting her ID I believe. She had to have a layover when initially she was supposed to be direct, but they accommodated her. I did a bit of research, and apparently the flat tire rule is an unwritten rule so you may be at the discretion of how chill the gate agent/ manager is, but in my experience and everyone I’ve talked to about it, they’ve managed to get accommodated when they’ve missed flights.
