Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Is it impolite to crosspost someone else's post to another community on Lemmy without saying anything?English
5·2 months agoI never mind when people crosspost things that I post. It’s just a way of dispersing content to relevant communities.
Also, the cross-posting feature usually automatically provides a link to the original, so I don’t know if there’s a need for an etiquette around it.

3·2 months agoBastard hard is my favorite. Thanks, will check out the crab.
That sounds like some Lovecraftian story: briefly glimpsing knowledge beyond human limits, then losing it forever.

7·2 months agoThis talk of walking the plank just makes me want them to make a pirate themed soulslike.

2·2 months agoPlaylists are easy enough so far. It just depends on what app you use to access it, I think. I don’t know if there’s a limit. I’ve never looked into lyrics, but I would assume it doesn’t offer that unless it’s pulled with the metadata or something.

2·2 months agoI use Jellyfin for simplicity, which probably isn’t the most preferred service for music, but it doesn’t really matter if you’re accessing it from your choice of mobile app anyway. You can set it up to stream your music library to your phone anywhere if you want also. (Android Auto even has an app)
I’m not confident enough to open up my media server to the outside world yet because I’m still a noob at this stuff, so I just have my full library when I’m at home and anything I’ve downloaded to my phone while I’m out.
You can even set up family sharing - you just give them a login, and they have access to all the same music.

14·2 months agoThere’s always the in between “ipod-era” setup, which is what I’m trying to transition back to: ripping and collecting media locally, then listening to it on my phone without streaming.

Looks like it originated from this 5 year old reddit post:

7·2 months agoI think more than one of them were like this! I just ripped a bunch of old DVDs to my Jellyfin server, and for some movies, I had to first run it in VLC to double-check that I was ripping the right track, which meant navigating through that nonsense… I remember doing it with multiple HP discs.

19·2 months agoPublic chatrooms were everywhere too. It was just the default, anywhere you went. AOL, yahoo games, random websites for no reason.
Even as late as Starcraft 2 (so 2010-), you’d open the game and immediately be dropped into a giant public chatroom on the home screen with everyone else currently playing.

It’s “Mr. Joshua”, aka Pants (or Pantspants). I have no idea why he never signs or watermarks his comics.
